Howdy and help please.

Hello from Illinois. I came across this Parker and I'm having trouble nailing down exactly what it is. Any ideas? Thanks in advance!

From the serial number the serialization book says it is a top action 12 ga hammer gun made in 1883 with 32" plain twist barrels on a #2 frame. Looks to be a grade 0, Parker's lowest "field" grade gun. Can't tell from the pictures, but it looks to be in good shape. I have 32888, a close relative of this one.

Thanks! Ballpark figure of a value?
|
I am not experienced enough to say, and those on here that are would likely want to see more pictures. Much depends on the condition of the barrels. It is difficult to estimate without the gun in hand. Nice gun though. Best of luck with it.

No worries...thanks much.

I have a 0 grade 12 ga hammer gun in shootable condition.
Looks similar to yours. I paid 500 at a festival / flea market. I think i got a good deal but I'm not an expert. |
The 32" bbls are a plus but more pics would help with the estimate
|
Are the bbls. original to the gun?
|
Why wouldn't they be? They certainly look like they are.

while the order number shows on the barrels of older Parker- the serial number being on the other side of the lugs |
The serial number is 32902 and doesn't appear on the barrel flats that I can see. What I do see on the barrel flats is the order number right where it belongs.
We can't see the side of the lug where the serial number should be stamped. So, I'm still a bit confused as to why he asks the question. . |
i agree
but how many times have we seen that order number thought to be a serial number by mistake and by that misunderstanding - thinking the barrels came from a different gun when I bought one of my hammer guns the seller said it was a non matching gun until I asked him to check the side of the lug, not every one knows this little oddity |
You're right Rick... we see that a lot. I should keep in mind that the 'Parker learning curve' is a long, gradual one. We were all there (and to some degree, still are) and as our friend Austin used to say, "I don't ever want to stop learning."

Glad I read this thread. Learned something new today. Now I know to look on the side of the lug for a SN. Thanks guys. This is why we cruise these threads, hoping to glean some knowledge from you gents, especially from the much older and experienced collectors like Dean. :)

Hey wait a minute... I'm just a young sprout compared to some of the old coots on here
. |
Easy now Dean. You got me beat by a bunch and I will NEVER catch up......
