Newest addition - first D!

Lets see, a D grade 12ga on a 1 1/2 frame, 28" barrels, M//F in deminsions that fit me.A bit of color left on the bottom and sides, mirror bores. 6#11 oz.

It has only taken me about 30 years to make the jump! :)

Eric Estes 01-15-2016 09:00 PM

Congratulations, very nice looking gun. I look forward to the day when I will be able to get my first D. I just hope it doesn't take me 30 years. :-)

keavin nelson 01-30-2016 09:26 PM

/thought I would post additional pictures - while in good condition, the stock has more than it's share of dents, dings and scratches. Most should steam out. Checkering isn't too bad.

One thing that has me puzzeled is the full coverage checkering on the foreend - it looks original, about the same wear and the grip, and it is mullered.

Brian Dudley 01-30-2016 09:34 PM

Yes, full cover on a D would be truely out of the ordinary and unique.

Dean Romig 01-30-2016 10:54 PM

Not unique. I had a DHE with 30" Damascus barrels, straight grip, skeleton butt plate, ejectors, 1-frame, fully checked forend, and twin ivories all supported by the research letter.

Really nice engraving. All D's are nice but some have what I consider nicer engraving like this one with more background behind the dog. And those few bumps on the wood are like scars on a boxer, just means she has been there. Enjoy. Congratulations on a great find.

Mike Franzen 01-31-2016 03:12 AM

Great gun! Congratulations Alfred. I would to see some pics of the forend.

Gary Laudermilch 01-31-2016 07:58 AM

Not sure of the correct terminology, but I do not see the teardrops behind the cheek panels on this stock. When did they become a standard item on D's?

Did i say one of a kind??!

Dean Romig 01-31-2016 08:46 AM

That feature was introduced back in the four-digit serial number range... In other words, right at the beginning of the "dollar grades."
If you want to check on the originality, gently lift and rotate the trigger guard tang to see if your gun's serial number is stamped into the wood.

Actually, yes, when you said "unique."

.

Brian Dudley 01-31-2016 09:00 AM

Well forgive my use of the wrong word. My intention was not to suggest his gun was the only gun with full cover checkering made. Only that it is a feature that deviates from the norm in that grade. I should have left it be by calling it "out of the ordinary".

Good thing i have you to correct me.

Dean Romig 01-31-2016 09:16 AM

Nothing to forgive Brian... Maybe you could forgive me for being too much the editor sometimes:cheers:

Congratulations to Mr Nelson for a fine Parker. Enjoy.

In my time between ending formal education and now i have also become quite poor at spelling too at times. I would not want to be you having to edit my PP contributions. But i am sure Word takes care of a lot of it before it gets to you.

Bruce Day 01-31-2016 09:46 AM

Its a beautiful sunny morning out on the Great Windy, its the last day of the Kansas bird season, I have two good bird dogs, a couple 20 ga Parkers, open land and quail, and buddies. Off to end the season here, then down to Oklahoma tomorrow to putter about in the sandhills.

Life is good. Photos to follow.

Dean Romig 01-31-2016 10:39 AM

Brian, your excellent technical articles have required practically no editing at all... they are an editor's delight.

Uh, yeah, you kinda did, according to the Oxford Universal Dictionary.

Dean Romig 01-31-2016 12:19 PM

We're past that Edgar....:bigbye:

edgarspencer 01-31-2016 01:34 PM

Yeah, I know, I typed it at 7:30 or so, and wandered off, then came back and hit submit. I'm easily distracted.

Brian Dudley 01-31-2016 01:41 PM

Beleive me i checked the definition of "unique" as well. One learns something new every day.

keavin nelson 01-31-2016 05:23 PM

now if I could just figure out to add the pictures I took to the thread, all might end well!

keavin nelson 01-31-2016 05:49 PM

the pictures have been added to my album.

keavin nelson 01-31-2016 05:53 PM

figured it out! - pictures!

Pictures of the D I hope!:crying:

Dean Romig 01-31-2016 05:55 PM

Nice job Keavin.... Nice gun too!!

keavin nelson 01-31-2016 06:21 PM

The flaws are the sling swivels added on the barrel rib and stock. missing stock sheild and it is a bit short for me. First we will try a slip on to get a bit longer length.

Dave Suponski 01-31-2016 08:08 PM

Keavin, May we see pictures of the sling swivels?

keavin nelson 01-31-2016 10:05 PM

full coverage checkering

Well maybe not so unique, just found another D on Gunsinternational with full coverage checkering on the foreend.

keavin nelson 01-31-2016 10:09 PM

Dave, the pictures of the swivels, did parker ever do factory install?

Dave Suponski 01-31-2016 11:13 PM

Keavin, Those are factory installed swivels. Wonderful...

Dean Romig 01-31-2016 11:23 PM

Yup, leave 'em right where they are.

.

keavin nelson 02-01-2016 09:31 AM

Yes I will! And perhaps the gun does approach unique with that addition, we will request a letter.

Dave, is there reference to the factory swivels in the Parker Story books?

Keavin,
Attached are two photos of a D grade 20 gage with factory installed swing swivels. The swivels are documented in the records and appear on the PGCA research letter for this gun. Larry

Mike Franzen 02-01-2016 11:32 AM

Very unique, I mean interesting... I hope you'll post the letter when it arrives. It appears you have hit a home run with your first D.

Love those DH guns ,mine is my current favorite

keavin nelson 02-01-2016 05:49 PM

Larry, thanks for posting those pictures. Certainly interesting to know Parker did that.

Letter received on the "D"

Received the research letter, confirming the gun is all original. It did not confirm the sling swivels, but they certainly look like those on other guns that were. Interestingly, at a LOP of 13 1/8", you would think it was a custom order gun? We have a Galco slip on leather to extend it a bit. But overall, quite pleased! :)

Chuck Bishop 02-09-2016 05:38 PM

The order book is missing, that would be where it would list the swivels if requested. I've never seen it mentioned in the stock books.

keavin nelson 04-25-2016 01:54 PM

Well as an update, we finally had it out for a round of clays, and much to my pleasure I shot one of my best rounds ever! Definitely going to be a keeper!

Chuck Bishop 04-25-2016 03:40 PM

Keavin, did you shoot at Lehigh Valley? I have relatives that live just north of Hellertown.
