New Years Day Shoot - Major Waldron's
Merry Christmas. It's one week to go from today and I thought I would put out a reminder and an invite to the shoot. It's quite informal, we will have at least one trap and one skeet field open at the same time. Non member rounds are $5. There will be coffee and steamed hot dogs in the shotgun shack and we usually enjoy several dishes of different food people bring. Bill Janelle bagged a deer again this year and he said he will be bringing venison chili. Bob Weeman are you coming this year with your lasagna? Dean Romig usually brings some of his wife's famous cookies.
Shooting will start at 9AM and the facilities will be open by 8AM. Long range weather forecast says we can expect a mix of sun and clouds, light winds and a high of 39. All subject to change of course. Directions to the club are here: http://majorwaldron.com/directions/ Sound off if you are coming so we can get a headcount. |
Peter

Pete,
The stars have aligned this year and it looks like I will finally be able to get up to the New Year’s Day shoot. Deb can't make it but promised to cook up a large venison stew for lunch. I may bring along a "ringer" from the southern part of the state to help the rest of us "Flat Landers" hold our own against you "Live Free or Die Boys." See you guys on Friday and I hope you all have a great New Years. Larry |
You guys are going to love Deb's cooking!!
So who's the 'ringer'? . |
Damn, this is one year I can't make it and it is looking like it will be a great day. Good food, new guys & guns and lots of BS I'm sure. I wish I could make it:crying:, it has always been a fun day!
Have a great day and as always, be safe. I hope someone will take lots of pictures and share with the rest of us. |

Edger will always be welcome to ride with me. If he wants to go I will be in his driveway at 6:00am. |
It is 3 hours and 14 minutes from Stowe VT but it looks like its all downhill.
I will leave at 545am. I am bringing my new favorite waterfowler- my SSS. Save some birds for me. |
Well George - After spending a couple of days with the Trap Family, you should be an ace at the traps on New Year's Day. :corn:
. |
Hmmm... I had a customer, friend and fellow PGCA Member show up at KTP today who begged me to attend (well, not really begged - rather, asked me if I was going..? ;) ). I told him I wasn't sure if I could make it...
His reply was that if I didn't attend - they would say nasty things about me..... I replied - "What's the difference then, if I attend or not?" ;) Hope to be there and catch up with you folks... John D. |
John, it would be great to visit with you at Major Waldron's on Friday. I don't get away on Saturday mornings much anymore and miss visiting with you occasionally at KTP.
. |
It looks to be shaping up to be a nice day Friday both in attendance and weather. Right now the forecast calls for sunny and high of 40, winds 10 to 15. It will be good to see everyone and all the old guns, looking forward.
Don't forget to bring your 10's, we may shoot an Annie Oakley or a Protection with teams having a 10 backing up a 12ga. |

For the Annie Oakley protection shoot Mike Kobos, impartial BOD member, drew the team names out of Pete's hat.
First up, the early odds-on favorites. Scott only had 5 shells so Larry had better do the work... Well the 2016 New Years Day shoot at Major Waldrons Sportsman's Association in Barrington NH is in the history books. We had good weather and good turnout of PGCA members in this part of the country. I was pleased to find in attendance today three members of the PGCA board and our webmaster. We were treated to a lot of nice guns, some seen before and some first time appearances. My vote for Best of Show goes to Bob Weeman he snagged a really nice Remington 1894 CE 10ga. However some folks may have voted for Dean's 28ga or perhaps John D's 410 or maybe his grand dads AAHE trap.
In between shooting rounds of trap and skeet we played a couple of long range trap shooting games. An Annie Oakley with two man teams at each station. A 12ga taking the first shot and a 10ga backing them up if they missed. Of course if the 10ga shooter fires at a broke target the team is scored a loss, oh ya it happened a few times. The winners were Bob Fabian, DHE trap and Bob Weeman, Remington 1894 CE 10ga. Next up we lined up everyone at the 27 yard line and had 3 shooters poised to shoot at a target. If the first man hit, he is safe. Then the next 3 shooters who have not shot put their guns up. If the first man missed and the second man hit the first man is out, same for 1st and 2nd miss and 3rd shooter hits, 1 and 2 are out. Another scenario, first man misses, second man hits and third man shoots, in that case 1 and 3 are eliminated. First to fall was Dean Romig, last to fall was Bob Weeman and John Dunkle won shooting his heirloom AAHE trap, congrats John. First up is John Dunkle shooting his heirloom AAHE trap on the skeet field, he really did well with it considering the chokes and he was much improved when I told him to try it shooting with his head on the stock. http://i269.photobucket.com/albums/j...pswrlwywbq.jpg PGCA Board member and first time attendee, Mike Kobos. http://i269.photobucket.com/albums/j...psfeehvb7g.jpg Misc, doublegun porn. http://i269.photobucket.com/albums/j...psbfqapafe.jpg Dean Romig's 28ga or wait is it John D's 410????? Great write up Pete!
I want to give a shout-out to the folks of Major Waldron's and to Pete Lester organizing this event for a really good time today. Nice to see some familiar faces and some new ones. New face was Derek who bought his first Parker and posted in the New Member forums asking questions came up to the shoot. He brought his newly acquired Damascus barreled GH to have us all take a look to inspect the condition to shoot safely. With the "go ahead" who looked at it and confident this Parker is safe to shoot, Derek shot his Parker for the very first time today and shot trap, skeet, and Elimination. He did very well shooting a double gun for the first time. What a great way to start off the year in 2016. Hopefully we'll see you again. |

Not pictured in Pete's post is Herb who came down from Maine to join us sharing a good laugh with Billy Janelle.
As the day winded down, "The New Hampshire Boy's" Bob Fabian, Billy Janelle, Bob Weeman, Scott Kittredge, and myself shot a round of skeet to end the day. Happy New Year everyone! |

Definitely what Pete said, this was the gun of the day. Thanks for letting me touch off a few shells on the trap range today. We'll see you again at Scarborough in 2016 to shoot some sporting clays. |
A big thank you to Scott and Pete for organizing this event. I am really glad I was able to finally get up there and partake in the fun and comradery. You couldn't ask for a better day or better company. I look forward to doing this again in the future.
|
Guy,s looks like a great time as usual. Sorry I couldn't make it this year. I thought it best not to infect everyone with this damn cold I seem to be coming down with. I really missed seeing most of you but next year the first is on a Saturday I think.
|
I echo Larry's Thanks.
I had a blast and that Protection Game was the most fun of all, except for being able to pick on our Webmaster- JD. Thanks to Stub Twist for backing me up in Protection- sorry I left you in a bad position on second shot too many times. Oh well, next year we will win. I felt like Captain du Bray, shooting from the 28 yard line, surrounded by Parkers. What a fun game. Waldron's is a great small club, the house was warm and the food excellent. It was great to see new faces and of course old friends. We got to handle some special guns and I thank JD for the honor of shooting that AAHE. Wowwwww. It is a hike for us Southern New Englanders but well worth it. What a way to ring in the New Year. Thanks again to the "Live Free or Die Trying" boys. |
