Annual meeting theme

The 2010 PGCA Annual meeting theme will be "Fishtail Top Lever Guns"

The banquet will again this year include "The People's Choice" display of Fishtail top lever Parker Guns. We will have a couple of new awards and are looking forward to an outstanding display. For those of you who havent seen these displays in past years, you have missed a Parker Gun spectacular! This year will be the best yet!

Please consider joining the PGCA banquet this year to share and view Fishtail top lever Parker guns. We are looking forward to your contributions.

Hi Josh,

Thanks! As well, I'd like to assist by:

1) I'm going to make this a "sticky" for a while in the forum, OK?

2) For you new collectors, you may wonder what a fishtail top lever actually is - and what one looks like? I've attached an image below for reference of what the heck a "fish-tail" lever looks like (sort of?)?? And until I get a better picture of one - will leave my picture in place for reference.

HOWEVER, please be assured and fear not. Since I have posted a picture of a prime example of my "fish-tail lever" as reference, it would be unfair of me to enter mine into the competition, so I will not enter this particular Parker....

;)

Carry on....

John

(BTW - anyone have another picture of a fishtail so the newer folks know what they are?? If so - please feel free to post it - I have no idea how long the ADMIN will keep my reference picture up? ;)

Though not nearly as rare as the fishtail toplever that Mr. Dunkle has submitted this is one the more commonly found variety of fishtail toplevers:

Posted for a friend, I don't own a hammer gun yet.

There are also hammerless Parkers with fishtail levers.

I would bring my pretty (once upon a time) GH 12 if I hadn't fallen on my brick walkway with it two years ago :banghead:

Sure, I don't have one of those either, however, since John Dunkle clearly has the top hammerless fishtail lever gun, there is no sense in even trying to find one. Maybe I should just try to heat and bend the opening lever from one of my old beaters. Now if I could only find an expert on using torches on Parkers.......

Here is a 16 Ga.DH Grade, FishTail top lever gun ,Serial ,72000 range .

Dean Romig 05-04-2010 10:53 AM

Russ, is that the one that was on gunbroker twice, the most recent time was about 1 1/2 years ago??

Russ Jackson 05-04-2010 10:57 AM

Dean; Thats the one ,The gun had been refinished ,but I still can't believe that no one else bid on it ,we have discussed this gun in the past ,but believe it or not ,its been a couple of years already ,DH ,16 Ga. 28 " Damascus barrels on the O Frame , a very nice gun to handle ! I need to have the Damascus redone ,I just keep putting it off !

Dean Romig 05-04-2010 11:56 AM

Yup, I remember - blued Damascus barrels and a screw or two missing from the side of the frame. I probably told you that I wanted that gun but didn't go the extra yardage that you did in getting the particulars from the seller.

Russ Jackson 05-04-2010 12:13 PM

Yep ,Thats the gun Dean ,the barrels is why no one bid ,I would assume , But I have to tell you ,they are very nice ,inside and out ,w/ double Ivory beads ,a very nice gun ,I really should send the barrels out ,I am sure they would turn out nice ,I just get it out once in a while ,take a look at the old girl and put her away !

Dean Romig 05-04-2010 12:52 PM

Well, if you decide to come to Hausman's please bring it with you.

Sorry to have hijacked the thread. :duck:

Members- Please email me or PM me with the Fishtail Top Lever Guns you would like to display at the annual meeting. We already have some great guns coming for display including a huge #7 Frame 8ga. As with last year, places will be reserved on a first come first served basis. We will have room for about 40+ guns and I hope we will fill all slots again.

Thanks for your continued support!

Josh, have you a count total to date on commitments of guns for display?

John Dunkle 09-02-2010 05:45 PM

Hi Dean!!!

I think he's still working on the final count - which is why I put up the notice on the forum for a while - just to be sure folks remembered to bring their fishtail parkers for display & contact Josh..

As a sidenote - I'd enter mine - but, mine is so RARE (see my first post in this thread ;) ) that I'm not certain how it could ever be judged fairly..??

HA!!!

Best to you, Dean!!! And I'm looking forward to seeing you in MD!!

John

With any luck, I'll be picking up the plaque for the "People's Choice" later on today. Photos forthcoming.
