This is a early front action 14gauge with 30" Damascus barrels, 135.00 grade. The 14 gauge was not listed in the early catalogues, but this is a true 14gauge, The gun is shown in the serialization book pg 15, and the Parker Story page 233, Gary

Whata Heavenly Beauty

The serial number is 1147, made around 1872, early front action, Look at the pb in the shield on the barrels could this be an early attempt by Parker to make barrels? Gary
|
Does anyone know what the inside measurement of an 11 ga chamber would be? I have an early lifter which I thought was 12ga, however when you shoot a 12 ga shell it will often split the brass. It is serial number 4989. Just wondering if it could be an 11 ga? Carvel

Charlie, you should have bought that D grade 14 they are pretty rare! Gary
|
Gary this is 1 beautiful gun. Can you share the letter with us? Have you been able to match any of the initials with early contractors or employees? Thank-you for sharing this Parker with the rest of us.

Erick, I have no letter it is to early, I am sure the guy I bought the gun from will not mind if I give his name, Mr Bill Mullins, I have not tried to match initials with contractors, The gun was featured in several publications, Bill had the gun a long time, I am fortunate to be its keeper now, I think it is the best example of an early front action damascus, lifter in 14 gauge in original condition out there, maybe Bill can add some info? Gary

It would be interesting to know how that gun survived and was preserved in that condition. That was a great addition to your collection.

Thanks Gary, I don't have the book yet but it is on its way. Carvel

Thanks Dean the shield that is stamped on the barrels have a pb in them, Gary
|
Right Gary. We've seen that PB in the shield stamp on Damascus and Twist barrels pretty often.
I don't know what the shield with the PB means or represents. Possibly the manufacturer in Belgium or Birmingham....... or maybe they were stamped after striking at Parker Bros. . |

Gary, that is a beautiful gun!
I checked my 12 gauge #1219 front action lifter and it appears that it has the “PB” in the shield as well. I posted a picture below. Most people on this forum would know more about this than me(though I am slowly learning), I just wanted share that a gun made close to the same time has similar stamps. That gun is very nice to say the least, I hope you enjoy it! Jay |
