Unusual Bead sight

1 Attachment(s)
This photo from Auction Arms shows a lot of space from the front of the barrels to the bead. There appears to be at least a 1/4 inch of space with no rib lines. It is a great looking Parker, this just caught my eye it probably is just the way the light is hitting it. How far back should the bead be?

The bead is in about the right spot, maybe a bit rearward, but we generally see the matting run farther beyond the bead with less blank space at the end of the matting.
I would like to know more about what appears to be a triangular recess (or whatever it is) that the bead appears to be sitting in.

I have been bidding on this little 20....getting to the top $$$ seller does not answer all my questions? head of stock needs better pics...may be a repair there? thanks Kenny Graft SXS ohio....(-:

Dean Romig 04-28-2010 09:26 AM

What is the grade of that 20?

I wonder if the barrels or at least the rib might be replacement by LeFever or Simmons...
Just thinking out loud...

Eric Eis 04-28-2010 10:36 AM

Kenny, that does not look right at all. I think those barrels are cut and someone took a file or a Dremel tool to that rib. That doesn't look anyway original.... Be carefull if you are bidding on that one

Richard Flanders 04-28-2010 11:20 AM

The rib looks too wide in comparison to the bead and it looks like the bbls could not possibly touch if you visually extend the radius of each towards the center. It doesn't look right to me.

Dean Romig 04-28-2010 11:22 AM

Hmmmm... just noticed the left muzzle seems to have been trimmed at a slight angle from square.

Here's a closer look but it doesn't help that much. I tried a number of enhancements but none really enhanced it that much. Another attempt. The original photo is just not sharp enough to get much from enhancing it. The info just isn't there

Dave Suponski 04-28-2010 12:24 PM

I gotta agree with you guy's.I think they have been trimmed.A seller that will not answer questions always throws a flag up for me.....

Richard Flanders 04-28-2010 12:58 PM

Looks to me in the closeup that those bbls could have at least 1/16" separation in the middle... am I hallucinating here?

Bill Murphy 04-28-2010 02:57 PM

I think it would look better if they were cut another 1/16". Get out the saw. I would trust the seller to properly describe the gun.

Kenny Graft 04-30-2010 03:10 PM

Buyer beware on this one....no reurn policy implied, no answer to my direct question about return either. Seller has a hefty buy now price to imply that it is a correct hi condition gun...HMMMM??? Im out of the game...spent my mad money and some on the repro 410/28 set from Galazan....sweet...(-: thanks all, Kenny Graft SXS ohio

According to the fine print of Auctions Arms it states a three day inspection.
I have always found that the best sellers answer all questions.

Bill Murphy 05-01-2010 02:38 PM

Anyone interested in this gun should try to talk to the seller. I would be exchanging telephone numbers by email as "Step 1". No one has implied that the seller has refused to give up his phone number. I think the gun is absolutely right. I saw a sight and rib end just like it on the net yesterday. Only a phone call will get you a real serial number and information on inspections. Asking questions by email on a $6000 gun does not make sense. Get a phone number or get in your car and drive to look at it.

Bill Murphy 05-01-2010 02:55 PM

One poster bid $3500 but doesn't trust the seller or the gun and says so on this thread. What's up with that? Is he trying to keep others from bidding against him? Is this seller getting beaten up a bit on a site that doesn't allow selling guns? I think if we are not allowing promoting of guns on this site, we should not allow the trashing of guns for sale on this site. I am hitting the print button after I hit the submit button.

Be careful, look what they did to EDM after some of his posts we lost his wisdom and we don't want to lose yours.

just my input; i had a PH 28 '' full and imp-cyl booked at 28 inch and it had just as much space in front of bead , scott

Buried in my last two posts were: "Pat had an honest question." And; "I saw a Parker with a similar sight and rib end just this week." Gun sold for $4402.00. I guess that answers Pat's question. I hope one of us got it.

Kenny Graft 05-02-2010 05:00 PM

I hope its a good un-cut barrel gun....it was a fair buy if all is correct. The seller should have been clear about the return policy. It is listed there by the AA but you have to search for it. My question was ...what is your return policy, and he should have responded along with his anwer to the weight. 5lbs-8oz does not sound correct, few if any were that light?, his scale could be off a few oz. And for me return policy did not come to light till after the auction ended. I have returned several old american SXS-s couse they did not live up to the desciption! Yes a phone call is better with seller with gun in hand. I will not bid all the money without knowing it can be sent back! thanks all, Kenny Graft SXS ohio...(-: This should be the place to discuss listings like this one! This thread has nothing to do with selling a gun by this sight.

Bill Murphy 05-02-2010 07:07 PM

Ken, I agree there "should" be a place to discuss guns for sale, but apparently, this isn't the place. It is just too hard to separate discussion from promotion. When my guns come up for sale, don't worry, you will know about it. But so will everyone else. By the way, there will be pigs and an open bar.
