NH Waterfowl - A good days take
Six geese (I lost count), one banded, all taken with Short Ten's, two Parkers (1 hammer gun and 1 hammerless) and my Lefever 10ga.
http://i269.photobucket.com/albums/j...psz0whutxv.jpg An excellent blind retrieve on a hen wood duck (1 of 5 taken by the three of us today). He is really responding well to voice commands this year :rotf: http://i269.photobucket.com/albums/j...ps7qfyagwi.jpg Todays tally was brought to you by Frank Cronin, Scott Kittredge and myself. |

You're right Pete, it was a great day! Couldn't ask for better weather and great shooting.

While sitting in the blind, all morning we saw quite a few crows in the sky. After the goose hunt, we figured it was also a good day to give those crows some Parker and Lefever medicine too....

We didn't manage much luck busting crows although Scott did hit one while we were walking out from our Woodie hunt.
All 20 gauges were used. Scott was equipped with his 30" VH, I used my LC Field grade with 30" barrels ejector gun, and Pete used a 20 gauge with a unusual barrel orientation.... |

Have you guys called in the band number, yet? I love hearing the back story on those.

Just about 7:30PM, I am going to bet that Frank is fast asleep for the night. I think we wore him out, then again none of us are the kids we used to be. What a great day!

After my earlier post, I went to lay down to take a nap. I was exhausted. Alarm was set or 3AM and on the road by 3:45 to meet Scott at his house at 5:00AM. Long day for anyone but all worth it. John: I logged on the USGS website via my smartphone and entered the information. I had no choice since Scott and Pete were both curious too! Here's what it said. INFORMATION FROM OUR FILES: Species: Canada Goose Date banded: 06/21/2011 Banding Location: FARMINGTON, STRAFFORD COUNTY, NEW HAMPSHIRE, USA Age: WAS TOO YOUNG TO FLY WHEN BANDED IN 2011 Sex: FEMALE Thanks again for reporting bird bands. |
Were they factory shells or reloads in the Lefever G?
Thanks John |

My Lefever G 10ga has the thickest barrels walls from breech to muzzle of my short tens. They are extremely stout. I have no fear when shooting any nitro load I put through it. |
The New Hampshire boys and "NH Adopted boy" got it done in a fine way, congrats.................................

I have a heavy Damascus Lefever G built in 1891 or '92. I'd like to use it pass shooting geese here in Indiana. I'll have to locate some bulk Bismuth.

Very cool!

I fully agree on the Miroku. I have C. Daley 500's in both 12 & 20 by Miroku and both are great guns, never any problems. They can still be had at very good prices and are almost identical to the BSS Brownings made by Miroku. I guess the " made in Japan " still bothers some folks.
|
I've got one of those Miroku 500's as well. Hardly ever use it, but its nicely made, shoots any 2 3/4", and double triggers too. If I had a choice I don't think I'd use a non selective single trigger gun anymore.

You know...if the picture of your hunt with the old 10-s was in black and white....it could have any date attached to it......1900....1905....1910 These are the good ol days... Sweet SXS ohio

Nice hunt guys! That bearded retriever may need some correction with the shock collar, wouldn't want him to get distracted.
|
And for heaven's sake - DON'T feed him before the hunt - Look how lethargic and confused he looks. Always feed him after he has performed well. Treats now and then during the hunt are okay, but nothing more than just an enticement to do well.

I just saw this thread. I have been in Maine hunting grouse for two weeks.
Congrats to my NH buddies. I am jealous. |

I don't want to hijack your thread with my lack of prowess.
Thanks for asking. I did get one. Shot on the wing with a Parker, the Governor's DHE20 and RST 2.5 inch 71/2 loads. Not shot in a tree or on the ground. I didn't take many shots because the leaves are all still on the trees and green to boot. Charlie Purple had fun and got lots of practice finding and retrieving my bird and some other donated carcasses. |
