Three setters, a solitary spaniel, westley Richards and Balevenie double oak, top,it off with moderate temps, Michigan backcountry, unbeatable company and a few birds! Not a bad way to start the year!

When he checked in with me in a grove of thick aspens we were moving through, he looked like this, it always makes me heart stop but thank God he had no visible woods.

I have had that with my setters a couple times- turned out to be a thorn cut in the tongue both times

On one trip to Michigan we arrived late in the day and decided to let the dogs run before it got dark. On the second pass by my oldest setter was covered with blood to the back of his rib cage. There was so much blood it was difficult to see where it was coming from. Turns out he had a hole punched through his tongue as if someone used a paper hole punch on him. I was beginning to wonder just how much blood a dog could loose before being in serious trouble. I plugged the hole with EMT gell and it stopped bleeding in short order. We ran him the remainder of the week and it never bled again.

What part of MI were you hunting, where I hunt Mid MI most of the ferns are brown. Looks like you had a great weekend.

Beautiful gun and dog Mike. E.M.T. gel.... A must for any dog owner whether you hunt them or not.
6-7 years ago I was hunting my Lab and noticed he too was covered in blood along his left flank. Looks like he had an encounter with some hidden barb wire and he had a 3" gash on his left flank. After dousing him with hydrogen peroxide to clean up the wound , I applied the gel to the wound and kenneled him for the remainder of the day. By the next morning the wound was healed enough to allow him to hunt full bore the rest of the trip. My hunting partner, who is a veterinarian, was amazed at how well it worked.

I have used the stuff on myself since I am now under a prescribed Warfarin program. It works though can be a little messy.

It does work on humans Fred but when I used it on a deep cut I had on my thigh, I found myself lifting my leg to relieve myself.:rotf:

Great looking Wesley Richards. Probably my favorite English gun. Not cure why, never owned one. Just like the looks

Works great on ear cuts also. Its the only way I can get them to stop bleeding.

A couple of rambunctious boys, bunk beds and a low ceiling fan in a cabin- yeah, EMT gel works like a charm!

I always carry some self adhesive bandages with me and a pair of hemostats. Daisy LOVES porcupines:eek: Only saw one this year in the U.P. and that was while I was in the truck thankfully.

Bloody tongues and tail tips are the hallmark of a Michigan grouse dog.
