Parker 157766 DHE interesting stock

I looked at 157766 today 12 gauge, 30" DHE #2 frame straight grip that has had better days. What was very interesting about this gun was the buttstock had a straight comb and cheek piece like a rifle with very nicely figured wood. It was original to the gun in age/wear and under the trigger guard was stamped 157766 3. What is the rarity of a cheek piece on a parker?

thanks

A rare special order option that is not unheard of, but rare indeed.

Brian
I have seen three others that were original

I know of a 24" DHE 28 that had one but the wood didn't match the forend very well so I figured it was a restock. It's been restocked since them also.

I have a SSBP and trigger guard off a a BH trap gun made in 1898. Curiosity made me send in for a letter on it. The letter said it originally had a raised Monte Carlo stock so they were an option fairly early. Wish I had the whole gun.

The above photographed gun is not to be confused with factory work.

David,
I am working on Elmers gun as we speak, what a great gun.

Brian, Is that cheekpiece applied to the stock, or is it a one piece construction?

Brian Dudley 10-05-2015 08:20 PM

???

John Cinkoske 10-05-2015 08:45 PM

Sorry... Is that stock one piece of wood, or was the cheekpiece applied later?

Brian Dudley 10-06-2015 01:21 AM

Well, I have no connection to or specific knowledge of the gun pictured or anything, but the Monte Carlo comb certainly appears to be added on through some means.

Brad, is that the same Elmer Keith Parker that was on display at the Boise Cabela's for many years?

Brad Bachelder 10-07-2015 08:19 AM

Justin

I only know of one Keith BHE trap gun, So it could be the same.

Yes. It was in Julia's auction last winter, along with his Ithaca No. 5E 16-gauge and his Magnum-Ten No. 4+E both of which were originally the elder Chas. Askins' guns. Also, many of Elmer's rifles and pistols were in the auction. Got to fondle them all at the winter Las Vegas show.
