Fox A 20
 

Sorry I don't have better pictures, but I have had this gun for a month now and haven't had time to shoot it. I have been doing a restoration on my circa 1825 hewn log cabin , trying to get it done before bird season--I will post pictures.
Fox A 20 with 26" cyl/cyl barrels confirmed on card look up. 5 3/4 lbs, obviously ordered as someones light bird gun. Probably shouldn't have bought it, but the price was right, and they are not real easy to find.

I once owned a 20 AE double trigger gun with 26 inch barrels. It was the most brutal gun to shoot I've ever owned. The recoil was so severe the barrels would jump out of my forward hand and the rear of the trigger guard would slam into my middle finger of my shooting hand. The barrels would ring on the action for about two seconds at each shot. I used it as partial trade on a Parker BHE 12ga.

Yeah, some of these light 20's can have quite a kick. Most of the time,esp on clays, I drop down to 3/4 oz loads

Yeah, Julia is having issues with the recoil on her 16 gauge VH.

Julia would probably find that a 7/8th ounce or even a 3/4 ounce load at 1100 fps would be satisfactory for informal clays shooting in her 16. Recoil would be significantly less than a 1 ounce load at 1200 fps.

She was using 7/8 Polywads. We probably need to go down to 3/4

I noticed the same thing the first time I fired my little fox. Caught me by surprise.

Get her a nice VH 28 or even one of those Repro 28's .

I had a Darne 20 gauge someone brought back after the war that thing was two red hairs over 5 pounds and while it was great for carrying and shooting quail that type thing it would pound the fire out of you on a skeet field . I got a Darne 12 with it that was a couple hairs over 6 pounds and it was a good deal more user friendly on the skeet then that 20 !

I have a Fox A 16 gauge that I like quite a bit .

I think a Fox A 20 with the older engraving pattern may be coming my way soon . If that's the case I'll have to think about getting an A 12 gauge just so I have all three :whistle:

Great looking Fox, but I really like the looks of the wood on that table it is on.

Roger that on the recoil of light 20's. That's how I found the one Repro 20 I had, even with 7/8oz 1200fps loads. Booted the hell out of me. Was glad to see it gone. Neither of my V-grade 20's are an issue at all.

That table is an old butchering table, that used to be waist high, but was cut down to make an end table, the bottom of the legs were getting soft and rotten. It probably weighs around 100 lbs and is a b**ch to move. Obviously you can see all the knife marks from hard use. I do not know how old it really is, but dare say it is far older than me(62). It always sparks alot of coversation from visitors, and is in my den.
Ok, a few cabin pictures--this is on an old farm in Belmont County, Ohio, that I bought in the early 1990's.

Nice! What a great fortress when/if the Clampetts decided to invade! Musket balls would just bounce off those walls.

yeah , I rarely shoot anything but 3/4 oz loads thru my light 20's.
