Help me pick out my next Parker.
To commemorate my Setter, Gus's first year in the woodcock woods, I'd like to purchase a lightweight 12 (could get away with a 20, but I have a VHE in said calober, and really love the 12) with a setter engraved on the reciver, I feel that my best bud should have a fine gun shot over him. I am pretty sure that limits me to DHE's but I am not positive, I know very little in the Parker world! Thank you!

D grade or higher. Or an Ithaca field grade.
|
A DHE on a 1 frame with open chokes and shorter barrels ought to be perfect for you. Or find a 16 gauge, even though that will set you back a little more

I purchased a 12 ga 1 frame P with 26" factory twist barrels a while back. Talk about a grouse/woodcock gun. At 6-8 it is a bit light for my liking but it is a wicked quick handling gun with fantastic dynamics. I sought out this piece as one could be purchased for considerably less than a 20. I'm just too much of a tightwad to pay the exorbitant prices small bore guns bring. Glad I did because this gun handles like a 20 and with light 7/8 oz loads shoots like one. So, essentially a 20 at 12 ga price.
My mission this season is to shoot at least one grouse with it. A mission I am looking forward to. Just my two cents. |
Well Gary, it sure sounds like you have the gun that will do the job!

If any members have a D grade with steel barrels for sale or have a line on one please let me know!
|
I may have just the ticket shortly.

I have a DH 1 frame, 28 inch 12 ga choked .005 and .012 at 6 lbs 8 ozs that i use for my upland bird hunts, You will like the light 12 ga's with open chokes! good luck. scott

Don't be afraid of a Damascus DH either. If I were in the market, that is what I would look for
|
I have a 1 frame DH 12 that has 28" barrels and weighs 6lb8oz. gun flies in your hands, you will love a 1 frame DH 12. Mine is Damascus and I love it.

It depends on the opinion of the shooter. I shoot RST more for the wood then the barrels anyway.

Polywad sells low pressure shells as well.

My "Bird Gun" purchased at the Spring Southern is a 26 inch 12 G 1 1/2 frame VHE. My opinion it handles better than my O frame Trojan 20 or 1 frame Trojan 16 . Guns are a only a few oz apart but it pays off how the gun feels.
Use the same shot weights all three, 3/4 & 7/8, the 12 patterns better too. Don't overlook a 1 1/2 frame D Grade. May be easier to find than a one. William |
I have a PH on a 1 1/2 frame that handles like a dream
|
|
Stock looks like a replacement. Keep in mind the only people who have to be happy about a deal are the buyer and the seller
|
Very poor restock. And overpriced for the quality of it.
A 2 frame 30" gun? Hardly a lightweight bird gun. |
Though both of my "go to" upland guns are damascus DH 12 #1 frame guns, you might look for a 1 1/2 frame with 26" steel barrels. I have a VH in that configuration and it is a very fast handling gun and a pleasure to carry. Much lower price too! Once the gun is mounted it's impossible to tell if it has 26" or 28" barrels.

I have two 1 frame Parker's. A GH with 28" Damascus barrels .005 & .027. The PH is Twist and has been cut down to 28". Sellier & Bellot has 12 gauge 7/8oz loads that shoot wonderfully through these two guns. I purchase from RST when ever I can as they can't be beat.
|
I've decided to go with a 12ga on a #1 frame and 26" barrels after doing lots of research....now to find it....
Thanks for all the help, guys! |
