What pad looks best to you???
3 Attachment(s)
I have a Parker that has a very old recoil pad that is not original to the gun so I don't mind changing it(it originally had a skeleton butt). It is hard and cracked as you can see. I am thinking about a new leather faced silvers pad in either red or orange. I am torn because the orange would be more correct but I like the red pad it looks better to me. What say you, red, orange or leave it as is? Thanks Craig

Red!
Orange..... :nono: . |
I like the dark red
I have one Silvers orange. But you can't see it because of the brown leather over it |
Either one depending on your taste but the old one looks shot
|
I'd opt for the orange and then age it a bit.

Well after I slapped a KickEez on my 12 VH #2 frame a month or so ago , I kinda go with the one that takes out the most recoil !
I might add I slapped that one on their just for the moment and had all intentions of taking it off and replacing it with something shall we say more period correct. But after shooting it at Jap trap , regular trap and skeet that pad will stay on that gun until I've quit shooting or passed on to my maker ! I'm in the process now of trying to get a very similar VH on a 1 1/2 frame that would be more in keeping with a skeet gun as the stock dimensions are quite similar to my VH #2 frame gun but the barrels are a taste shorter and more open . |
I agree Craig, red.
|
What year was the gun made? I believe the red Silvers was available after 1904 or 1905. I'm not exactly sure of the date.
If after 1904-05, red would be okay. Back to your question, I like the red pad. |
The gun is 1904 BHE.
|
I would love to see more pics of this gun. Oh, and red.

Congratulations on another wonderful Parker Craig!
The Members will get a real treat when they receive their Fall Issue of Parker Pages in a week or two. In it we are featuring Craig's enormous 6-Frame D-Grade 10-bore with 36" barrels... just one more of Craig Larter's collection! . |
Craig, I would go with the red pad.
|
Very nice!
|
Definitely the red one. Or you could restock it and return the original skeleton but plate....just a thought:whistle:
|
Red:)
|
Thanks everyone for the feedback----red it is. Craig
|
So your just going to totally disregard the idea of a new stock???:rotf:
|
Rich: Correct ----the two year wait would kill me, I don't have the patients.
|
2 years:eek: You NEED a new stock guy. My Fox will be ready for this fall and I'll have another custom one for targets by hausmans. Gunner's gun was a year from start to finish. The red pad will look nice though.

OK the red pad is installed with a leather face. I asked Brian Dudley to round the edges of the pad. The early Silvers I have observed were rounded at the edges. What do you guys think? How does it look? Do you like the round look or not??
|
Looks good to me. I like how it does not deflect attention from that great wood
|
I like it just the way it is. I would do nothing else other than shoot it and enjoy it.
|
Looks great Craig
and nice work Brian |
Perfect! Now go shoot the old gal.
|
Daryl: I took the BHE out to Canandaigua gun club today with Rick Simmonds and Doug Ward for a round of sporting clays with our sons. The young men beat up on us older guys. Oh to have the reflexes of a 30 year old!!
Anyhow the new pad looks great and I love shooting the BHE. Thanks everyone for you input. Craig |
