My new favorite shotgun

After a long drought on shotgun adoptions due to my fondness of Pre64 Winchester M70's I found two recently. Hausmanns yielded a Stephan Grant hammer gun and the Great Northern produced this little jewel, a WR Pape back action hammer gun in 28ga. Barrels are 27 inches choked IC/F, LOP is 14 1/4 and she's a hefty 5lbs.

Rich, if you get tired of carrying that heavy gun, just send it to NH....I'll PM you my shipping address:rotf:

Rich Anderson 06-27-2015 11:59 AM

I'm going to eat healthier and start a work out program so it doesn't become a burden:rotf: When I fail I'll let you know:rolleyes:

Rich ,That Pape Gun is gorgeous !!!!!!!!!! I notice it isn't wearing a Plate what is the Butt Treatment ?

John Campbell 06-27-2015 02:12 PM

Ah, yes. Mr. Pape. Known as "the Purdey of the North" as well as the creator of the modern dog show. Any man who likes guns and dogs can't be all bad.

Well I guess I need to come clean too... at Hausmanns a certain 16 ga McKay Brown followed me home and then at the Great Northern Shoot I shoot my best SC score with the McKay and there happened to be a new unfired McKay in 20 ga at the shoot:eek: As you can see this is not a good combination plus then I have COB pointing out all of the good points of the McKay 20 on Friday night and I was doomed :crying: So yes it came home with me :) now the Fox FE 20 ga is going to have to go on the block along with a few others to :crying:
So if you know anyone looking for a beautiful CSMC FE let me know.

Here is the Grant. A 12ga hammer gun with the Jones under lever, 30 inch barrels choked IC/IC. I shot it very well this am on the SC course with a score of 40.

John Campbell 06-28-2015 05:04 PM

Mr. Anderson:
A fine gun indeed. You might know I own its twin. Please see your PMs.

Nice gun. They sure new how to put a gun together back then. Really like Jones under leavers.

and a couple of the 16 I really love this gun..... I haven't shot the 20 but I really like the 16 !

All are fine guns gentlemen, Buy the guns you want and shoot when you want, A day will come when you will be glad you traveled that way, I believe that if a man can afford a gun he wants and does not buy it, he should not bitch when he comes back to buy it and it is gone! Just my opinion! gary

Eldon Goddard 06-29-2015 10:28 PM

All four are absolute beauties but that grant is really something, but like wayne I am an unapologetic lover of jones underlevers.

Rich Anderson 06-30-2015 09:43 AM

Gary I agree with your way of thinking. Life is short, if you see it, like it, buy it. That's what I did with the Pape and don't regret it at all. I pondered over the Grant at the Southern but I had bought two high condition and rare Pre 64 M70's. When I decided that the Grant should come live with me it was marked sold and I was disappointed. When I found out the buyer had backed out at Hausmanns I grabbed her immediately and I'm glad I did.

The stock on your Grant looks like it was cut from the same tree as my Boss. Beautiful piece of wood.
