Ithaca by SKB Doubles

Curious on thoughts on these doubles compared to other models. Are the Ithaca by SKB models considered higher grade or the same as the later SKB models of the same guns. I have had several of these and still have a pair of 20s, a 500 O/U and a 200 SXS. Both 20 guage 3" chamber guns choked imp/cyl and mod.
Thanks in advance for any comments.

These are great guns at a affordable price. The early guns are lighter and more trim than the later one's with choke tubes. The true SKB or the Ithica have the exact same engineering but with some differences in the final product. Both are mechanically the same, same quality. I own two 28" 20ga guns, one is a Ithica model 100 and the other a model 200 with ejectors and beavertail both are mod/full thanks all SXS ohio

Good sound guns. A very good copy of a Webley & Scott. They are one of the more reliable single trigger guns.

Sadly, the early SKBs had less than reliable flat springs. Mostly top lever springs. Many worked fine for years however. Good guns for the most part.

Great design guns, a real workhorse, very well regulated. Hammer and sear springs are prone to breakage. The greatest problem with the original SKB guns is with the soldering of the barrels. The monoblocs on the O/U barrels frequently seperate as do the forend lugs on the SBS barrels. They can be repaired and refinished. Plenty of repair parts still available.

Unfortunately, my 20 ga. Weatherby Orion (made by SKB) was NOT well regulated. It is a fantastic gun. However, the top barrel shoots a hair low, and the bottom barrel shoots very high. It is like having two very different guns on the same stock. I returned it to Weatherby (we're talking approx. 1990), and after they had it WAY TOO LONG, they told me it shot within spec.

Well, that's why I shoot Parkers. I can tell that they were actually regulated by a person with functional eyes. It is sad that Weatherby chose to not stand behind their product, as I will never buy one of their guns again.

I know that others have probably had better experiences than I with Weatherby guns, but - with me - when it comes to my hard-earned money, they only have one chance to make a first impression...

I've had a 100, 200 and 280. All have been great guns. A friend is still shooting the 200 and she loves it. It is her quail and woodcock gun.

I hope these detrimental features don't apply to the new Turkish guns. Anyone know about these?

Daryl Corona 06-18-2015 07:30 PM

They are Turkish...that's all I need to know.

Bill, i had Mark DeHaan order me one of his custom huglu's, about 12 years ago, it is a .410 bore, sideplated boxlock, with really nice exhibition grade wood, straight stocked, semi beaver 27 1/2" tubes, fixed imp modified chokes, sst,and 15" pull to an engraved SSBT. It replaced the LC smith 410 i had been shooting since junior high, that was stolen from me. I have conservatively put 125 flats of 3" thru the gun...no issues...at all. On hindsight i wish i had ordered a double trigger gun, but have had no issues with the trigger that came on the gun....oh.. And non automatic safety. If interested ill post a pic or two...my beloved elsie that was stolen still holds a special place in my heart, as i,literally grew up with it, after my father grew up with it! BTW, the DeHaan gun is on a true .410 miniature action, and is an extractor, as i prefer extractor guns greatly.

I think they are work horses as well. I have two 100's in 20 gauge that I use for rainy day guns or on the chukar hills.
I recently had Mark from 4R's Gunsmithing do a single to double trigger conversion, and I have just recently received the gun back. I believe Mark is a member here on the forum.
I hope I'm not breaking any rules by giving him a plug. Mark was great on letting me know just where we were in the process and performed the work and the transaction completely professionally.
I will have Mark do the second gun shortly.
I have had the 20 ga. 28 M/F gun for 30+ years and carried it plenty. Never a single issue.
A bargain in my mind at the prices that they go for.http://i267.photobucket.com/albums/i...zeRender-1.jpghttp://i267.photobucket.com/albums/i...t/IMG_5403.jpg
