Parkerized Doves Today.
Thanks for posting, but I being a newbie would always appreciate a little location info, even if it is generalized, Michigan still does not have a Dove season so I am curious?
This is in Arizona.
We have been invaded by the Eurasian dove in biblical numbers in some parts. There are no seasons for them and no limits. Shoot all you can all year round. |
Wow! Why go to South America to hunt doves?
Yes I did use an LC Smith also today as the barrels get too hot with only one gun.
Good job I know how fun that is in off season. We have those ringnecks here in Florida. No season on them here either. We also have the morning and whitewing but both are seasonal and fed. regulated.
Good times |
Looks to be 120 or so....Did the two of you
get them all....and how long and what type of field??? Thanks |
Three shooters, 3 hrs, between a Dairy and roosting area, shot a few more after the photo
op for about 148 birds. |
Nice
Got to be as much fun and more skill needed than Chile or Argentina. ..and whole lot more convenient and no expense
How do these Eurasian dove taste in comparison to Morning or White Wing ?
In my opinion they taste a little bit better.
It looks like you are going to have quite a feast!
May need to go on a road trip to the Southwest.....
Nice shooting Dale. How many boxes of shells did you guys go through?
Well I did not count my shell expenditure I usually average 2 shells to every bird I shoot. Some days better some days worse. I usually shoot Eurasian doves once a week every week all year long for about 50 birds ea outing. I once shot 103 in one day just to fulfill my anticipated goal of doing so (had to do a morn and afternoon to accomplish the goal) The dove opener has lost it's charm as I am in heaven all year long. My biggest decision is which SXS's to shoot ea outing. I may need more guns!!!!!
That sounds like heaven to me!! And you get to fill the freezer and frying pan to boot. I saw a couple of those doves in the yard in Denver last year. They're huge.
They are beginning to show up around here in North Georgia. I wonder how many states they are in now.
I've seen a few in La. last year while on a woodcock hunt. They were around the lodge yard where there was a bird feeder. There are alot in Florida but don't flock like the morning or whitewings we have. There are alot around the dairys with the feeding troughs.
Good bird to extend the season or daily bag limit.I notice they fly different, not as fast and a larger bird. |
In certain areas in South Texas they congregate in large numbers....already a common "bonus bird" during the season here. I have gone on a few 100+ birds per shooter outings when concentrations are located. They are great table fare! They are most definitely less challenging than Mourners to hit......they dont have that same ability to jink the nanosecond the hammer falls! Wish we had them as reliable as that here!
Thanks for the post and the Pics! |
It seems to me the Eurasian Dove has adapted to diving and dodging more so than when I first started shooting them a few years ago.
It's like "HEY YOU NEVER USED TO DO THAT" as they dodge a nano second before I pull the trigger. |
You are probably right! Those first guys that lit of black powder at mourners, probably thought they were easy to hit until the birds got wise. Our e doves here are really not seeing any real pressure yet. I'm sure that will change with time! I do think I will have to prevail on one of my AZ friends to arrange a shoot out there! Thanks for your post and thread!
