I had a nice CHE 16 ga follow me home yesterday!! A high condition 30" Acme gun with some unusual checkering. Have any of y'all seen this on a C grade?

David

Very nice David. Finally found your C 16 I see. Not that many out there and I look forward to seeing the whole gun some time.

I have found that C's widely vary. About half of them are standard engraving and standard C checkering, but the other half can be about anything. I have not seen this specific checking style before but you might recall that a few months ago we posted pictures of a C 12 from CH that had little arrows in the checkering, something like yours, and I re-post those photos below. Note the double mullered border, very unusual.

My guess is its about a 226 or 228 SN gun. It would be interesting to see if a research letter had anything about the checkering. Going to bring it west next fall? If you do , we can put four or five C 16's together.

Congratulations.

These did not come out very sharp. Nice pheasant on the trigger plate but have not been able to get a decent picture.

David , The gun is beautiful ,looks like very high condition ,nice colors ,What is engraved on the bottom of the receiver seems the C's had quite a variation of engraving styles also !

Dave Suponski 04-04-2010 12:18 PM

Stunning gun David. Will it be at vintagers in Sept.? Congratulations...:)

Dean Romig 04-04-2010 10:38 PM

David, you're lucky I didn't see that one first! What a beautiful CHE, congratulations!

Larry Frey 04-05-2010 10:37 AM

Hi David,
That's a great looking and very unusual C grade. Try setting your camera to it's macro setting and use natural light and you should be able to get some good detail of the engraving. I would really like to see the pheasant on the floor plate. Larry

I am not going to Pintail Point again. Too far away and got tired of the venue.

This year's display theme might just be C grade guns with a highlight of Bernard Barreled Parkers.....

Bunch of C's around but if you emphasize Bernards, the field will be limited to 10's and 12's, two 16's and no 20's. Still looking for that elusive 20ga 30" Bernard that is in the books. My guess is that you could field 15-20 Bernards.

I agree. I have two,a great CH 10 and a CHE 12 two barrel set.
David

Dean Romig 04-05-2010 07:51 PM

There is also a 10/12 that I am aware of and have handled.

The one I'm referring to is Bernard/both sets.

Certainly not intending to denegrate your lovely gun Bruce.

Bruce Day 04-05-2010 08:11 PM

There is the Vincent Holmes set, both Bernards, that was written about in the DGJ. I have photos of it around someplace. Nice gun.

A real sweetheart, that one. Wish it was mine... Vince sent me a bunch of pictures of it about a year or so ago. Vince is a really nice guy too. I wonder how he came upon that gun.

I'm sure that I'm getting in water that is far to deep for me!

I've had to move a bowl over my keyboard in looking at these guns.

They are are ALL beautiful!

Kent Nickerson 04-05-2010 11:38 PM

This thread is what I visit the site for.

Relax Fred, and remember it's only a bunch of old iron and wood.;)
