Parts gun oddities
Picked up a GH 1 1/2 fr. 12 ga.(87812) for parts the other day. While looking it over i found some interesting tidbits. In the book as a D2 but has Twist barrels with the correct #. I'm tempted to get a letter just to see if they are a second set or a misprint in the book. Trigger guard is not original but...has no serial number on the outside but does have one on the underside.(229146) not in the book. Barrels were blued & the solder gave way at muzzle end & they separated about 3 inches. I can't make out any Twist pattern anywhere even on the flats which are clearly marked T. The stock, which has major problems in the head area, seems to be from a later VH grade by the looks of checkering & butt plate., but the grip cap is period correct. The forend wood & iron are excellent & is why i bought it. I think someone went to a lot of trouble to put all this together. Keeps me fascinated.

YOU bought that gun. I saw it through several cycles on GB. The seller finally came down to reality on his opening price.
The barrels are deffinately from another gun. Re stamped. |
You're probably right Brian, but they either restamped the extractor or used original because it has the right gun number. What can I use to try & remove some bluing to find the twist pattern ?

Try birchwoods blue remover

Toilet bowl cleaner on a cotton ball if you don't have blue remover. But, you may not be able to see the twist even then because those barrels have to be etched to bring out the pattern contrast.
Radio Shack has circuit board etchant that is used to do this mixed with distilled water. Midway USA has a youtube video of Mr. Potterfield etching a parker barrel using this stuff. |
