DHE 410

I'm looking at a DHE 410 that matches the specs listed for its serial number in the Parker Identification & Serialization Book. The problem I'm having is that the barrel does not have the taper or notch above the hinge pin of the receiver. I've never seen a 410 didn't have this taper (if that's the word). Not seen the gun in person but the gun is described as 100% original. Any comments will be appreciated. Thanks

From what I've seen, the earlier .410-bores didn't have that notch, and are actually a bit better looking in my opinion.

Thanks for responding. This gun was made in 1926 so should be one of the first guns built in 410.

Zowie, post the serial number. As Dean says, the early guns didn't have the notch.

Serial Number is 218484.

217466 is the first commercially made 410 and it was pictured in the PP article on the Governors Guns. Its a couple issues back.
218484 is early.
They all look nice to me.

Looks to be the 29th .410 listed in the Ser. Book.

That is correct, I had an early D without the notch and a later with the notch both lettered and if you look in the PS there is mention of this

Here is a documented example to ease your mind. I agree with Dave, they look better without the notch.

George M. Purtill 03-20-2015 03:02 PM

Check the serial number on the Julia's gun. next gun after mine.

That is a beautiful gun at Rock Island. The early 410s mostly had ball grips. The ball grip on the delicate 410 is a thing of beauty by itself. This is 217466 next to its 20 gauge sister.

How did that great gun get its Grade 5 stock?

Dean Romig 03-20-2015 09:21 PM

Bill, see page 16 of the Winter 2013 Issue of Parker Pages, contributed by George Purtill, for the full story of these two wonderful guns.

George M. Purtill 03-20-2015 10:19 PM

Bill- the stock is original but George Lane upgraded the checkering because he was in need of money after Parker left for Ilion.
As you know, George checkered the Invincibles. Follow Dean-o's reference.

An ugly gun. I am in the market for a nice .410, ugly or not.
