semi-happy?

looks good from here

Mike Franzen 03-16-2015 01:39 PM

You got a real nice grade 2. You won't be sorry. The engraving is really nice too.

CraigThompson 03-16-2015 01:44 PM

It has a rather nice dent in the right tube , but I think I can do a little something with that !

Semi happy is all about the Benjamins

I would have been MORE happy if fewer Benjamins had left my pocket .

CraigThompson 03-16-2015 01:47 PM

I'm going to try this one on the skeet field wednesday afternoon .

Gun feels rather nice when you throw it up the drop is not that great or so it seems .

I would like to get another on a #3 with 32" F/F at some point I think .

I do understand that

but look at it this way

you'll make more Benjamins

they wont make more EH's

Is it a 10 ga or 12? I have a 10 ga 2 frame 30 in. just like that and 1889 also.
Yours looks like a nice gun!

Mills Morrison 03-16-2015 02:54 PM

Good job! I have one like it, but not as nice as yours

I love that early GH/EH engraving. It is underrated in my opinion

I've decided for the dollar laid out versus what one gets the EH/GH/Grade 2 guns are about perfect for me .

As I like engraving but I also like using them . While I say I would take a DH or BH or AH out hunting if I had any of them , when push came to shove I'm not sure if I would or not . Certainly I'd take them on a skeet or trap field but hunting I'm not so sure .

CraigThompson 03-16-2015 03:18 PM

Now if I shoot this thing well enough to suit me wednesday half the struggle is done . Then I can start trying it on paper at 30-35-40-45 and 50 yards with lead #4 and if they do okay I can try it a bit with Bismuth #1 handloads as well . It's my intention to make this my #1 goose gun this coming year . Well that is after I kill a brace with my old W&C Scott 10 gauge .

scott kittredge 03-16-2015 05:41 PM

I was shooting mine today. went crow hunting here in NH. Glad i had my 10 ga lot of shots 45 yds or more. i even drop one at about 60 yds. this is my go to crow gun. choked .025 in both barrels. shoots 6's the best, from 1 oz to 1 1/2 oz. loads i have shot ducks, geese, turkey, crow, trap, sheet, and sporting clays with it. i do love a 2 frame 10!
what the S/N is on your gun? maybe it's close to mine 5663x , they made alot of 12 ga 2 frames when they came out with the 1st hammerless 12 ga, I thought they might have had alot of frames around in the beginning so they made some 10 ga guns too while the 1st 3 frame hammerless frames were being made???

Mine is 57,70x and by the serialization book it's correct as 10 gauge 30" .

CraigThompson 03-16-2015 06:05 PM

I'm not sure how this bad boys gonna be on 40-50 yard shots on geese since it's only M/IM .

Dave Suponski 03-16-2015 06:28 PM

Wonderful gun. Congrats. Love that engraving.

Richard Flanders 03-16-2015 06:39 PM

I think I'd be a tad bit more than "semi happy" with that gun!

Dave Suponski 03-16-2015 07:23 PM

Scotti....Don't people work on Monday's in New Hampshire....

Rick Losey 03-16-2015 07:29 PM

CraigThompson 03-16-2015 07:35 PM

My trio !

1889 EH #2 10 gauge on top

1884 Grade 2 #3 top lever 10 gauge in the middle

Mills Morrison 03-16-2015 08:44 PM

Those are some nice guns Craig.

Mills Morrison 03-16-2015 09:19 PM

I would love to get an 8 gauge EH/GH with that early engraving style. I wonder if anyone has ever seen one? One of these days . . .

I think Puglisi has one or had one . But I also think it was about 10 or 12 G's !

Mills Morrison 03-16-2015 09:51 PM

Puglisi has a GH 8 with no engraving. I know Puglisi's 8 gauge inventory pretty well.

Dave, I worked on the blizzard we had. it was a payed day off, so i banked the day and used it monday, nice trade off, But 7 crows didnt think so :rotf:

Mills Morrison 03-17-2015 08:49 AM

The GH is the less expensive one. Something like $9,950.

Bill Murphy 03-17-2015 09:05 AM

I would sure like to see a PGCA letter on that unengraved GH.

CraigThompson 03-18-2015 08:38 PM

Shot a round of skeet today with the EH got 22 of 25 . Then I shot a round with my Grade 2 top lever 10 and broke 23 of 25 . I think this EH and I will get along just fine .

CraigThompson 03-18-2015 08:40 PM

Incidentally I also patterned the EH with hand loaded 0 Buck at 25 yards and that dd very well also . Surprisingly I tried the liftergun and it did even better .

CraigThompson 03-19-2015 10:30 AM

If the weather permits I wanna shoot again next wednesday with the guys I shot with yesterday . If it all works out I wanna try another round of skeet with the EH and possibly a couple rounds of trap .

I also think I'm gonna try it with 1 1/8 ounce loads this time instead of my usual 1 1/4 ounce loads . I don't see why I can't reduce the shot charge by an 1/8 and add another 16 gauge card wad under the shot and it should be all good .

Also wanna load a couple rounds with #1 Buck , a couple with #0 Buck , a couple with #00 Buck and a couple with #000 Buck all buffered of course . After my pre season testing last year I'm sold on buffer in my buck handloads .

Mills Morrison 03-19-2015 10:36 AM

Nothing like watching clays disappear in front of a 10 gauge

Yes the two guys I was shooting with were oooohing and aaahing some of the breaks .
I shot six rounds of trap and skeet yesterday , most I've shot in one day in quite awhile and I'm feeling it today !

i shoot 1 oz loads at trap

CraigThompson 03-25-2015 05:27 PM

Went out today and shot one round of skeet and one round of trap with the EH ended up with a combined 45 of 50 . That unto itself isn't that great until one realizes I was pulling for myself by stepping on the pickle .

Also tried it on the pattern board with handloaded 000 and 00 Buck . This old gun seems to like my buckshot handloads !

Incidently my loads were new for me !

I used the same powder charge of SR7625 but changed the amount of shot from 1 1/4 to 1 1/8 ounce and added an additional 16 gauge card wad in the shotcup to make up the difference . They performed very nicely when I did my part .

You need to come shoot for Team Parker at the Southern

I'm leaving April 4th and won't get back into Dullus until April 25th in the afternoon . A friend with the last name of Sanford offered to let me fly down in his plane if I wanted to go this year with him and another friend . But sadly I'm unable to take him up on his offer !

Mills Morrison 03-26-2015 08:34 AM

Maybe next year.
