Parker Bros. 14 ga ?

Hello.

I have a Parker Brother hammer double , lift lock , double hammers.

Serial number. 01197.

This appears to be a 14 gauge. Also, have a few all brass 14 shells as well as a dozen or so paper shells

I am attempting to find some history on this. A local high profile gun shop, Jaquas , Could not find the serial in their Parker book, the book did not list this matching serial number

Thanks for any info !

If Jaquas can't find it it probably means it isn't in the serialization book. You can put the serial number in on this website and find out if the PGCA has info on the gun. Good pics would be nice to see also

there are surviving records for a letter on that serial number

Be certain that number is not the order number. The serial number is stamped in the left side of the lug while the order number is stamped in the right barrel flat.

Jaqua staff verified the serial matching serial number. thanks

I did not ask , what price range would this be ?

Dean Romig 03-14-2015 10:05 PM

The fact that it is a 14 ga. Parker isn't really such a significant factor in the gun's value. Condition - condition - condition are the three determining factors in the case of your gun's value.

Don Bash 03-14-2015 10:19 PM

Since it is pre 1872 , over 140 years old and the only one I have seen It will stay in my collection
I do think it would be nice to show others. Most folk in my travels have never seen a 14 gauge ! The all brass shells are neat as well.
Thanks,

Small world I think someone was just talking about this gun yesterday at a gun show in New Riegel Ohio .

Don Bash 03-15-2015 06:17 AM

I believe you were sitting with a vendor? I did buy the 14 and 10 gauge. Still have a chance at the 410..

Dean Romig 03-15-2015 06:27 AM

Can you show us pictures of the 14 ga. gun?

Steve Huffman 03-15-2015 06:28 AM

That was me Is the 10 a Parker also ?

Steve Huffman 03-15-2015 06:36 AM

By the way Don welcome to your new home its a illness we all have. Is the .410 a Parker also ?

Don Bash 03-15-2015 07:21 PM

Thanks And I think the 410 is a Mississippi Valley Co.

Even though the link where you type in the S/N shows that there are surviving records, there are no records that I can find on this S/N. The Stock Books start at 1500 and even then, the info you get is not much. This gun is too early for either the Order or Stock books.

Early guns are very interesting even though you can not get a letter some times, they are very unusual in configuration sometimes with different bolsters, skeleton butts unusual stocks Serial # 258 is one of these unusual early guns, maybe the guys at Parker just got bored or were trying new designs? I posted photos of this gun a while back, Gary

258

Those photos are on page 11 6th post down, shows some of the unusual things Parker did Gary
