del Greco

There was fact or rumor that the DHE I now own was worked on by del Greco. Is there a record available somewhere that could be researched to this fact or fiction? Its a DHE with a set of Vulcan marked barrels. Serial 97000.

Dave Noreen 03-14-2015 07:06 PM

It is DelGrego. Call them and ask --

Fred Verry 03-14-2015 07:11 PM

DHE ?

Jim, I think you are asking if Larry DelGrego and Sons may have worked on it? All the Parkers are too young for el Greco to have have tinkered with them.:)

You could ask them to check their records. Here is a link:

Chuck Bishop 03-14-2015 09:38 PM

My understanding is that DelGrego keeps records by the name of the owner of the gun, not the serial number. If you don't know who sent the gun to them, don't bother to call.

Jim Bennett 03-14-2015 10:14 PM

So....97000 has no records Chuck?

Bill Murphy 03-15-2015 07:59 AM

Chuck is referring to the Del Grego repair records. The PGCA records are something else entirely. Look at the research letter section on the home page. As Chuck says, Del Grego records are by surname, not serial number.

Larry del Greco when he was a church painter in Spain

Do you know how many times in my life I have been called 'Creg'? Millions.....

John Dallas 03-15-2015 10:24 AM

Do you know how many times I've been called a lot worse than that?

ForrestArmstrong 03-15-2015 10:53 AM

Jim, this can be a tough crowd.

Jim Bennett 03-15-2015 11:19 AM

I'm finding that out. It could be worse I suppose.

Bruce Day 03-15-2015 11:33 AM

Yes. We could all spend the winter together in Zortman . Wouldn't that be a happy thought

Jim Bennett 03-15-2015 11:39 AM

Or Wibaux.

It doesn't look that bad Bruce.

Mike Franzen 03-15-2015 03:37 PM

This thread should probably become a sticky as a warning to others who might misspell the Del Grego's name.

Bill Murphy 03-15-2015 04:23 PM

Correcting the spelling of a name of a person being discussed shouldn't be a vehicle for humor. The the post of the first poster who corrected the spelling should have been the last post on the subject.

greg conomos 03-15-2015 05:59 PM

It stems from the fact that it is a name so commonly misspelled. In fact, it is almost a sure thing that it will be misspelled. It's probably more exasperation than humor. Maybe a 90/10 mix.

Jay Gardner 03-15-2015 06:08 PM

Their records are kept by name, not serial #.

Dave Noreen 03-15-2015 07:56 PM

I seem to see Ithaca misspelled Ithica more than anything else in that part of New York.

agreed
it comes from mispronouncing it first

huked on foniks wurks for me

Bill Murphy 03-16-2015 09:43 AM

Ithaca was misspelled on the cover of one of their early catalogs.

Chuck Bishop 03-16-2015 10:16 AM

Jim, if you go to the Research Letters link on the home page, follow the instructions to see if records are available, you'll find that the PGCA has records for 97000 so a research letter can be done. Your question about the Vulcan barrels may or may not be in the records but it's worth $40 to find out.

The PGCA is in no way connected with DelGrego as far as record keeping goes.

Jim Bennett 03-16-2015 05:06 PM

I don't have my Parker book with but I asked someone with one to look up 97000 and they said it was not in the book. With out my book (next to my easy chair in Az while I'm crusin around Mt) I'm at your mercy.

Bill Murphy 03-17-2015 09:07 AM

The listings in the Serialization Book have no relationship to the availability of information from the PGCA files. There are PGCA records for your gun.

Jim Bennett 03-17-2015 10:31 AM

DelGrego

Thanks for the enlightenment.
All of it.
If a letter could be ordered on line it would be in the works.
Gotta wait till I get back to my digs.

Phillip Carr 03-17-2015 11:58 AM

A recent addition for members is the ability to now order a letter and pay for it on line. Just ordered a letter this way last week.

Jim Bennett 03-17-2015 08:32 PM

Del Grego

Thanks!
Wandering around on my liberal son's computer (with no default email setup) and internet Explorer that wouldn't go to PGCA (had to download Firefox) I think I got where I needed to go.
Letter ordered and paid.
Happy this feature was implemented.

Gary Carmichael Sr 03-18-2015 07:57 AM

Sounds like another Mac guy to me ! gary

Brian Dudley 03-18-2015 10:44 AM

Recently made the investment and switched. Will not be going back.

Harry Collins 03-18-2015 08:13 PM

I have an 1897 GH that had the damascus barrels replaced with Vulcan barrels. A friend has an AAH from 1897 with Whitworth barrels. His Great Grandfather was the original purchaser and had five additional barrels fitted to the gun by Parker. As I remember all were Vulcan barrels.
Harry

Dean Romig 03-18-2015 08:14 PM

No surprise there Harry... that was the inexpensive route for that many barrel sets.

Jim Bennett 03-18-2015 08:15 PM

Interesting .
Thank you. I can now relate.
