Who was bidding on the bernard CH

I was bidding on this gun but lost. Just wondering if anyone else on the forums was bidding. Bernard Cs are my dream guns, but I feel in an auction you must set a limit and not go past it or it quickly gets out of hand.

Wasn't me that's for sure ...but given the work that gun needs whomever bought it has set themselves up for a labor of love ,wood destroyed ,pitted barrels ,possible rib relay ,loose on face ,pitted receiver...Still ,like you said it is a C Bernard so congrats on whomever did win it !

I watched that gun all week and was going to bid last night, but the second bid shot it right past what I was willing to pay.

Looked at that one early last week. Seemed almost beyond redemption.

Brian Dudley 03-01-2015 09:22 AM

What a basket case.

I am wondering how I missed this listing on GB.

Tom Hawkins 03-01-2015 09:59 AM

Basket case

It will be a lot of work, I hope its worth it when its finished. It should be a good project for Trinidad in the summer with Dennis Potter. It needed to be saved, so I hope it will not be a giant money pit. The guns that are put back give me satisfaction and become favorites to me.

Dean Romig 03-01-2015 10:09 AM

Have you been to the Trinidad gun school before Tom?

That will certainly be a worthy project. Please show us pictures when it's done.

Brian Dudley 03-01-2015 10:13 AM

The barrel condition is the big thing. If they are workable, that gun is a very good candidate for full restoration.

Basket case

I have been there before and it was a great time. I fit and honed a set of barrels and forend. That gun needed wood as well. It was more of a basket case than this one. I met Mark Beasland and Dennis Potter is a great teacher.

A Bernard C is my dream gun. The only gun I'd rather have is a steel barreled C, or any B, A, AA or A-1 grade.....

Bill Murphy 03-01-2015 11:08 AM

Hopefully, we will witness the progress of this gun as it nears completion. There's nothing there that can't be addressed as long as the barrels are still 30" long. I have had worse. My 18" barrel BH 10 with no stock is an example. My two barrel CH Bernard with no stock and no receiver is another. Don't give up.

Jim DiSpagno 03-01-2015 12:24 PM

I bid up to what I thought was reasonable considering work needed but let it go

Craig Larter 03-01-2015 02:00 PM

Good luck with the c. My first Parker was a che and got me hooked on Parkers. Bernard barrels are so cool it will be a worthy restoration if it can be accomplished. I found mine at a small auction and the Bernard barrels scared off all the other bidders. Can't wait to see pictures.

Ray Masciarella 03-01-2015 02:00 PM

If good, I'd think the barrels are worth that much?

Eldon Goddard 03-01-2015 02:03 PM

Well Tom now I do not feel so bad. Especially if you post a lot of good quality after restoration pictures. My Bernard C is somewhere out there I just have to find it.

wayne goerres 03-01-2015 10:22 PM

Eldon there is another CHE on gun broker that has trodgen barrels and been restocked for 1500.00. I just saw it this evening and If memory serves that is a buy me now price. It is on the 4th or 5th page.

Dean Romig 03-01-2015 10:43 PM

WOW - trodgen barrels!... Quick - what's the GB number so I can place a bid?

wayne goerres 03-02-2015 10:17 AM

Looks like my spell check failed me.

wayne goerres 03-02-2015 10:48 AM

Somebody must have hit the buy me now button its no longer listed.

Russ Jackson 03-02-2015 11:32 AM

That particular C Grade has been on GB for some time ,I remember the Gentleman asking questions on our site about the gun before it was listed ! I don't remember who it was or even if he was a PGCA member or a visitor to the site , a nice looking gun just not original !:)

Bill Murphy 03-02-2015 01:14 PM

I can't seem to locate it on the "completed listings" site. What was that item number? OK, I found the listings, but did the guy ever post any pictures in the ad?

wayne goerres 03-02-2015 02:07 PM

There were no pics of the gun. That's why I didn't pursue it. Might have made a neat toy.

Brian Dudley 03-02-2015 02:38 PM

It is a CH with Trojan barrels and trojan forend and a BTFE fitted to the Trojan iron.
I cannot remember of the stock is original to the CH action or not.

Very fobbed together:

Woild make a good shooter at that price. But that's about it.

wayne goerres 03-02-2015 07:20 PM

If I remember correctly it had been restocked. Like you said a good shooter and on the interesting scale (if there is such a thing) probable worth investigation.

Bill Murphy 03-02-2015 08:23 PM

Forgetaboutit. There is another one out there for you.

Scott Janowski 03-02-2015 08:26 PM

With Bill's luck that CH with a the Trojan barrels will be the match for his Bernard set!

Bill Murphy 03-03-2015 01:48 PM

"Bill" has found the match of his Bernard sets.

will evans 03-03-2015 02:20 PM

I inquired about the C with trojan barrels weeks ago. It is still available, too. The seller is a nice guy and probably gave me too much information. I discussed the PGCA with him and he mentioned several members who had emailed him. I asked for their names, which he kindly provided. That was enough information to leave it alone. I knew then it wasn't the deal I was hoping to have found or else the gun would have already been purchased by one of them.
