kicking around an idea
I've been thinking about something for a while now and thought I would throw it out there. I like to write articles for the Parker Pages. I like to hunt with Parker Bros guns and I like meeting the variety of members of this association. So, here's my idea: I would like to go hunting with some of you and write about it for the PP. I would cover all my own expenses, provide my own guns and ammo, take good photos and write articles about our adventures. I would feature the guns, the dogs, the game and of course our members. This could provide material for the magazine (providing our editor deems it worthy), hunting experiences to share and bring a little more perspective about some of the members who make this organization the number 1 forum that it is. So, if you like this idea and think it's something worth pursuing let me know. If you would like to be considered for a hunt PM me and we can discuss it. I have several people in mind and am open to any suggestions. Turkey season is right around the corner!

Sounds good to me. A great idea would be the second annual Morrison Pines hunt next year. Turkey hunting would be fun too
|
Dean and Dave and maybe Rich Anderson will likely be hosting a Mammoth hunt here soon!
|
That sounds like a great hunt! Those three will probably be using Clovis points though to keep it real.

That's a great idea Mike. I think it has a lot of merit and could turn into a regular column. You've got my vote. Best, Dean |

A Clovis point is a very early stone spear point made and used by some of the first human inhabitants of North America.
. |
Wow... looks like an "A" grade Clovis... still retains orignal coloring.. :rotf:
|
Yeah but somebody chipped out the gold inlays of mammoths and saber-tooth tigers.
|
Ummm Dean.....Yes you are.
|
Dean I just assumed that if you were going mammoth hunting you would want to do a "vintage" mammoth hunt as opposed to shooting them from helicopters or using drones.

I like Mike's idea
Another alternative to that would be a "Trade Hunts" forum. For example, I'd like to trade a day's fly fishing in my riverboat on the Au Sable for a duck/goose shoot in the midwest |
Some how I new dean had a Clovis point. And I think I see some leftover blood on it.

i have one like that from the paleo period- I always figured the last time it was seen before I found in in a scraped spot in the dirt on a ridge in the finger lakes a few years ago was when the father said to his son- yes you can borrow it BUT DON'T LOSE IT. |
My Dad always said "Remember where it belongs... in MY rawhide possibles bag!"

Clovis point for mammoth, Mike, I've got just the ticket--found on our family farm in the 1950's by my father while plowing.
BTW, I would happy to share my coverts with you, been thinking about writing a little myself also. |

Makes you wonder if the old ones picked for figure as well |

Mike, how about spring and/or fall turkey in the western mountains of Maine? Fall hunt with dogs!
|
Yes sir! I like that idea. I have a spring hunt planned down south. Fall sounds good. PM me some info and we will talk.
|
Fabulous point Harold. Have you done any research on who made that style of point and approximately when it was made? Carbon dating?
|
you can't carbon date stone,
i had mine dated by an expert a friend had a connection with through the university her husband chaired a department at. The problem is, in most case, found on it own or removed from context , its a rough guess. the area I grew up in had a small Seneca village that was destroyed by the Sullivan Campaign in 1779, we found stone points often, my one teacher's family farm was near the site of the village and she had the classroom walls covered with them found in the fields. As kids we weren't smart enough to keep them. not far south of me now is where one of the largest Senca Villages was, Little Bead's town - Chenussio (Geneseo to us), points still float to the top after spring rains, and those that are lucky enough to have permission are still finding them |
tengh legion i like thatcarry strap you have on that gun..i got one like it i got from destrey..it sure is useful i used it some on my duck gun this year and will be useing it on my turkey gun soon like you... charlie
