That is real nice. I wish I knew someone around here in Maryland that could do that. Thanks for sharing.

Amazing improvement, Mark. Who did the welding and re-engraving?

Mark Beasland 02-15-2015 08:19 AM

Thanks for the kind words!

Ruff, I did the welding and engraving.

a little micro weld restoration

Amazin restotation. Could you share a few brief thoughts about welding process, type of equipment, etc.

I do know of one individual that repaired a barrel with a small hole. He commented 5 months of investigation and a few seconds of actual welding.

As a fellow restorer, nice job. Are you going to case it as well?

Bill Zachow 02-18-2015 07:08 AM

Who was the maker of the gun? Just wondering as its' not a Parker. Thanks.

Mark Beasland 02-18-2015 09:50 AM

Looks good so far...how about some pics of the entire frame? Who did the coloring work?

Hi,
Could you recommend any specific micro welder equipment and or discuss the relative merits of the equipment that is available? I am interested in acquiring this capability.
Regards

I don't know what he did this with but I've used a laser welder with excellent results. I lost the availability of it a few years ago and have another Colt SAA 1st gen project to do.

A jeweler friend has a micro tig welder that's actually made for welding dental bridges, that he wanted to sell me so I tried it out and it does work to a point but the arc is not predictable enough for the fine work and pit filling I want to do so I gave it back. That arc is just too inconsistent for me.

That laser welder was accurate as all get out and made the same size puddle every time, which by the way is adjustable. They are the greatest thing since sliced bread.

Hi,
What was the brand and model number of the laser welder?
Regards

I don't know the model but it was a Rofin 80 joule machine. There are table top versions of these welders that are half the price of the floor models but even used they are still expensive.
