Interesting Decoy.....

Or it would be interesting if the seller actually had any provenance other than the card taped to the bottom. I didn't ask, so maybe they do....

WHF did carve decoys and he made sneak boats too but so did a couple of his close friends make the same sneak boats and carve the same decoys. It would be interesting to know what else the seller has to support the attached card.

Interesting disclaimer under shipping terms..... "Seller does not offer returns "

No provenance discussion on this one, but have you ever seen a catamaran canvasback? The anchor is clamped between the keels in a spring clip

was he known to put his name or initials on them, unfortunately so few did

I don't know. I really don't follow the decoy market and their specific carvers per se.

Think I will pass

No returns, ridiculous price, no provenance, zero ebay history, doesn't know how to spell "by". I dunno.

And he paid $350.00 for it and now it's $1800.00 ????

i like that he knows LL Bean shot over this particular one

Phil Yearout 02-08-2015 11:10 AM

I guess I'd want a bit more authentication for $1800, but maybe that's just me. Also I notice is was carved BUY W.H.F...or maybe that was meant to be a subliminal message.

chazcole 02-08-2015 11:27 AM

Yea and if you look real closely you can see a piece of shot lodged in the decoy that came from LL Beans gun too.....:rotf::rotf:

It says "Made in Maine" but WHF never worked in Maine that we know of... He lived in Andover, Ma. and worked in Boston as publisher/editor of National Sportsman and Hunting and Fishing magazines. He did work with L.L. Bean in developing the sneak boat Bean sold and probably some decoys too. The Foster family did own a place on the Maine coast that they vacationed and hunted at.

Me thinks Burt Becker owned that decoy....I remember having a dream about a Becker bored Fox and that decoy was in my dream...(-:
