Your next Parker?

As I while away a rainy Saturday and have strolled down the WWW of parkerdom I contemplate my next adoption from the brothers Parker.

A 410 skeet gun would be my Holy Grail but I must confess that putting that kind of money into a gun isn't in the cards...unless the lottery ticket is a winner. I would like a DHE 12 trap gun with BTF, SST, 32 inch Vent Rib bbls. This will complete a collection of DHE 12's with bbl length fom 26 to 32 all with aformentioned options.

With the comeing of Spring and the shoots that go along with the warmer weather one needs something to dream over.

Bill Murphy 03-13-2010 06:14 PM

Richard, tell us about your DHE vent rib guns in 26", 27", 28", 29", and 31". I've seen a bunch of 30" DHE vent rib guns, so just tell us about the others. I don't know a lot about 34" vent rib guns, so don't worry about them.

My next Parker....VHE 0 frame 16 gauge 26" gun for Danny. It's already in que..

Bill Murphy 03-13-2010 06:43 PM

Dave, I had just such a high condition gun once, a #241,000 plus Remington gun. The asking price was about $300.00 and I couldn't get the cash together. I offered a 12 gauge non ejector Fox Sterlingworth that had some pretty strong color plus a few bucks. The guy liked the deal and we did it. I later put the VHE 16 in Shotgun News and sold it to a gentleman in Alabama for $450.00. I still have the paperwork if you want to contact him. The hundred bucks or so that I netted on the deal is probably worth about $86.75 today according to my investment history. How much do you want for the Saxbe VHE Trap. I could come out about the same on that one, but I've made a lot of friends, so what the heck.

Dave Suponski 03-13-2010 07:04 PM

Bill,Not to worry you're number one on the list....:)

Rich Anderson 03-13-2010 09:09 PM

Bill, I have a DHE 26 inch skeet and a 28 inch skeet configured both are straight grip, SSt, BTF and vent rib. The 30 inch gun is the trap gun I mentioned previously. I thought a set of 26,28,30 & 32 inch barreled guns will be something different...esp as I'm not a big 12ga fan.

Would like a nice original 16ga invincible. Would look nice next to my PH 16ga.:rotf:

PS- rainy day- we got blasted last night. Power is out all over town, trees down, stream flooded and boats laying on their sides where they blew off their stands.

Destry L. Hoffard 03-15-2010 05:44 PM

I'm still keen for a VHE 12 gauge skeet model, straight grip of course. That's really the only Parker I'm ready to purchase anymore.

Any grade of VH or higher 20 gauge with 30" or longer barrels......with high stock dimensions.....no lower than 1 1/2 and 2 1/4.........preferrably straight grip....oh yeah and cheap! They had a couple at Julias and they felt great but the wallet said no....

Francis Morin 03-18-2010 01:55 PM

Words of wallet wisdom??

Yessir, I agree Bob. Saw both a M21 skeet 12 and a VHE 20 recently (not a Julia's) and "NO" rang out loud and clear. But just 'cause a man is on a diet doesn't mean he can't read the menu!!:bigbye:

bob weeman 03-18-2010 02:27 PM

Sometimes I find it is better wishing than actually getting Francis.....I often think I had more fun when I had less and was wishing for more than now when I have a little more money......that reading the menu is fun....I have never seen so many fine shotguns in one place before as I did at Julia's....it was really a treat to get to handle them all.....and it has fostered more dreams of new guns.....yup....the dreaming and planning is as much fun as actully getting that new gun......for me anyway......however, you can never have to many shotguns....with only one Parker in the stable at the moment I am on a mission to give it a cabinet mate!

Harry Collins 03-18-2010 03:27 PM

I am in possession of 16 Parkers. Four of them are family guns. Though I shoot some of the non family guns as well as I can shoot, I would let them all go for the other family guns I don't have. One is a DH 12 with Damascus barrels and the other is a DH or DHE 28 gauge (it has been over fourty years since I have seen it).

I thought I had it yesterday afternoon when my local gun dealer called and told me he had a 20 gauge DHE in that I might like. As I was flying out the door, my wife told me if I liked it, buy it. Now, there is a good woman. When I got to the store--only 7 miles away--I did get to see a 20 gauge DHE. If the gun had been in original condition, I would have bought it in a minute. It did however, have a few problems and it was so sad as originally the gun was a real collectable. It was a damascus 20 on a 1 frame that had been completely refinished, probably by Lefever back in the 60s or 70s. Worse yet, the barrels were cut to 27 1/4" and had been blued after being BOTH monoblocked and sleeved. Why would anyone do both? Makes no sense. The reason I think Lefever did the work was because it was excellent. No buggered screws, no excess polishing of the receiver prior to recasing. The case colors were not Parker, but fairly close. To add further insult, the gun was made in the early 20s with a serial in the 190,000 range. It still would be a fairly nice hunting gun if somebody was willing to use such a creature. Too bad.

Dean Romig 03-18-2010 07:20 PM

Well Bill, a lot of us have "been there" before... too sad about that poor Parker. What a fabulous gun it must have been once upon a time.

"Good woman" is an understatement - Sylvia is a sweetheart!!

Eric Eis 03-19-2010 10:17 AM

Sorry to hear that Bill, because that is exactly the gun I am looking for to complete my collection of D grades the only gun I am missing is a D grade 20 gauge damascus. I would love to display all of the D grades at the annual meeting but without that 20 damacus I can't....:banghead:
