Show us your case

This is the gun USPS lost. I had this case made for it and pretty happy how it turned out. I saw a post recently where someone had made a beautiful case for his Parker and wondering if there are a few more out there

Beautiful case. I like that you didn't line the inside of the lid. Why the extra lock set?

David Dwyer 01-25-2015 02:39 PM

It is pretty common on high end English and Italian side locks, and I happened to have a set.
David

John Dallas 01-25-2015 02:52 PM

That' one serious slab of walnut for the lid.

Doncha love it when a guy just happens to have an extra pair of high grade locks just hanging around?

edgarspencer 01-25-2015 03:09 PM

That's a beautiful case. Those Philips head screws are gonna drive Dean crazy.
I like the French edging around the spare locks. Very time consuming to make those.

David Dwyer 01-25-2015 03:14 PM

Dean
Please fell free to send me period appropriate brass screws.:corn:
David

edgarspencer 01-25-2015 05:42 PM

Good luck with that, David. I've been checking my mailbox every day, and still haven't gotten mine. Maybe because my hinge takes 32 screws.
Jamestown distributors has them. I think I should have used #3 but the #4 barely sticks up, and no one but Dean will notice.

Rick Losey 01-25-2015 05:51 PM

and then the ivory/bone round box has the spare strikers?

looks like you are one stock away from a pair

Dean Romig 01-25-2015 06:03 PM

That's a very nice case and Parker set! And that is one beefy ball grip - extra nice!

Is the second barrel set Twist, or Plain Twist, or Stub Twist?

Dad's Case

My Dad built this case in the 1960's. He bought this two barreled VH 16 locally. Being the swamp Yankee he was, the case is a recycled cut-down box that he outfitted with mahogany blocks to hold all in place on his trips to New Brunswick for early woodcock and grouse season, long before the season opened in Connecticut.
I recently had the interior lined and rebuilt to protect the gun. It has 28 inch original Meriden Remington barrels and 26 inch Ilion barrels. Marked 1 and 2. The gun was originally sold by A&F in NYC.
Yeah, I know its probably way too fancy for a V grade but if my house was burning down and I could only take one gun with me this would be it. Yup, I would leave the DHE's behind, even the 410.
he was damned proud of the gun and so am I. And the case.

Just an old Parker from 1920

Dean Romig 01-25-2015 09:18 PM

Nice Dave!! Original A&F case too! How sweet is that.
AAH or A1S ?

Dean Romig 01-25-2015 09:21 PM

George, wasn't that gun going to be a feature story in Parker Pages?

if it wasn't

it should be, along with pictures of your father's hunts

David Dwyer 01-26-2015 09:01 AM

Yes, the ivory container has a spare set of strikers and have a custom walnut cleaning rod coming that fits next to the top barrel.
Edgar-show us you case again?

Ok, At the risk of boring some, here are the two that I did for my 2 grade 2 hammer 16s.
I'm thinking about one for the grade 3 12 gauge.

Dean Romig 01-26-2015 12:19 PM

Very nice Edgar. You have an eye for detail.

I'm impressed with your chairs too - they are beautiful.
Do you have the complete set of just the five we see?

They're Hitchcock. What's a set? Hitchcocks were sold by peddlars from their wagons, and most people bought them one at a time till they had enough. I have 6 in the Breakfast room, which are not old, probably from the 60s. I have another 8 from the 19th century. That table has been in the family for generations, and is documented Massachusetts, ca.1670. The bircage and chicken coop Windsor chairs are too fragile and got put in the attic. I suppose the chairs used when the table was made were rushed ladder backs.

The over ripe bananas go into bread, probably tomorrow. I'm having the Orange for lunch. Anything else?

Generally a set is an even number of somethin - in the case of household chairs, usually six or eight.

Anything else?

Nah, I got nothin'.

*check your PMs*

edgarspencer 01-26-2015 03:41 PM

 6 or 8 ? No wonder you walk funny

That's a great idea. But it means I will have to beg my siblings for pictures. And answer the same old questions of "how come you got all Dad's guns?.....[Because I was his hunting partner!!]

I thought the ripe bananas were intentional, an old timer once told me " when you get to be my age sonny, even buying green bananas is a bit of a gamble":rotf:

Dave Suponski 01-26-2015 08:27 PM

Wow!!! Did this thread take off! You old guy's crack me up.....:whistle:

Fred Lauer 01-26-2015 08:36 PM

Buying green bananas is a gamble and at a certain point, a lifetime guarantee doesn't really mean that much.

wayne goerres 01-26-2015 11:11 PM

Only on the Parker forum can you go from gun cases to chairs to over ripe bananas in one thread. Its amazing.

Dave Suponski 01-27-2015 10:25 AM

Yup...Give us time we're most likely not done yet....

I think it's a sign of the "Shack Nasties" setting in.

Agreed Dave.
Lets see some more case pictures.
How about this one: the gun is now on its way back from Brad B. But UPS just emailed me and said they are not delivering it until us Northerners shovel out.
S/N 27607 is an HD Folsom Trap gun in its original case.

Dean Romig 01-27-2015 12:19 PM

Very cool George!

Kenny Graft 01-27-2015 12:51 PM

Yes my Editor. It will be in the Parker-HD Folsom Trap gun article that I am working on today. I have some very cool pictures of Folsom Trap guns members have sent to me. I had no idea how neat the butt plates were.

Kenny-Its a VH 16 on #1 frame-- so its a good sturdy gun. As most of my close PGCA friends know I have a Remington era fetish and this gun and #237194 -the first Parker I bought at age 13- are the psychological cause for that. I grew up looking at Parker written on the bottom side. Maybe that is another PP article.

A two barrel gun lends itself especially well to a trunk case. First it looks cool. Second, it gives you a good nest for the second set of barrels while you are using the first.
If we could only get Edgar Spencer out of retirement to start cranking out some wood cases.......

Thanks George...Love a 16 Parker! I have a stash of rough cut curly cherry that would make some really nice wood cases. All we need is a good lumber smith...(-: SXS ohio
