a wake up call at 10AM :rotf: how rural life has changed.

I'm afraid no good Parker stories here Charlie, been trying to decide on either getting another Parker project I have been watching on one of the sites or picking up an interesting Birmingham gun (no name on it). While I go over a Marlin 90 16 I may unload to help finance that. Anyone who says a Parker is complicated never looked inside one of those- the safety/trigger block has two anchor points and articulated levers just to do that.

He is giving the rest of us a chance to sleep in.

Charlie did I miss the pictures on this 8ga.

Dean Romig 01-25-2015 12:51 PM

If it is the one Charlie got from Mills, I have pictures of the gun from about four years ago... but I don't know what it looks like today.

Rick Losey 01-25-2015 09:31 PM

or is this his new one

in which case, Charlie-- did you figure out your issue with the lock and cocking?

Mills Morrison 01-25-2015 09:34 PM

I think Charlie is up to three 8 gauges, if my memory is correct

I shot (or tried to) shoot ducks Saturday morning. Did some redneck proof testing of Damascus barrels with Rio Bismuth and they passed the test. No. 5 shot just does not do the job on big ducks though. It was a beautiful morning with my son, so that was all that counts

Destry L. Hoffard 01-26-2015 03:20 AM

Had trouble killing ducks with #5? One of my favorite sizes for duck. There have been seasons where I literally shot nothing else. I've also killed quite a few incidental geese with it. What trouble were you having?

Mills Morrison 01-26-2015 08:53 AM

I shot a Ruddy duck on Currituck twice with No. 5 and the guide had to finish it off. Shot another one with 2's and it was DOA. I was surprised myself. Several other shots this season which I thought were hits but the duck kept going. Could be my poor marksmanship, but the ducks looked hit.

Dean Romig 01-26-2015 08:59 AM

What were the distances you shot them at Mills? What is your gun(s) choked? Have you patterned it/them wit #5 at the longest distance you would ethically shoot a duck at?

When I shot ducks as a kid it was with #6 shot because they would be mallards, blacks, and woodies jumped from creeks while pheasant hunting in the adjacent fields and brushy stream edges. I would never use #6 for any ducks besides rising puddle ducks.... never for incoming or pass shooting.

Mills Morrison 01-26-2015 09:02 AM

30 yards. Chokes vary, but the two Ruddy ducks were with the same gun with the same distance. No. 5 it was still wounded after 2 shots and one shot of no. 2 and the second was dead as a doornail. Like I said, it surprised me too

charlie cleveland 01-26-2015 10:27 AM

in steel i use bb or 2 and you either kill em dead or a clean miss in most cases in my case clean miss... like mills said main thing just getting out there and having fun...charlie

charlie cleveland 01-26-2015 10:29 AM

no i have not tore down the 8 ga with the hammer holding back issue...some day soon...its not the mills gun with the issue...charlie

Mills Morrison 01-26-2015 10:29 AM

Clean kill or complete miss is what I aim for. I hate wounding birds.
