4'' Chambers. Man that would be a sweet gun.

Don't ever remember seeing the Beretta 8 before but I do remember seeing adds in the old Shooters Bible for the Zephyer single barrel 10 !

I'd kinda like to have that single barrel !

My 36" Honker is a really nice ten gauge. The advertised weight of about ten and a half pounds is Stoeger advertising hype. Mine weighs in the low to mid nines, a real handy gun.

I'm planning on buying my first 8 bore soon
just waiting on those slow w2s

Bill Murphy 01-19-2015 05:13 PM

I bought an eight gauge for $601.00 not long ago. I discussed it in the "other doubles" subforum.

Back in the late 1890s, early 1900s, a company in Rhode Island (Providence Tool/Arms?) (I can't remember the name) made a neat hammer single barreled 8 gauge. Either 34 or 36" barrels. A local gun shop in Syracuse had one hanging frum the ceiling. I first saw it in 1976 when I moved back to central NY from Mass. The dealer wanted $1500 and would not budge. I told him he was slightly daft and a few years later bought my first Parker double 8 gauge for around $2500. As far as I know, that single 8 is still hanging in Syracuse.

Bill Zachow 01-19-2015 05:31 PM

Bill, after I read your post I went back and looked at your one about the Davenport. That was the name of the gun I described above. Was I correct that it was made in Rhode Island?

Milton Starr 01-19-2015 06:39 PM

I always wanted one of those 8 ga Davenports .
Couldnt never find one though under 2k . Seen a few for sale
but not something i could pay over 1500$ for .

charlie cleveland 01-19-2015 09:49 PM

there were 2 davenport single barrels forsale on gunbroker here while back they did not sale that i know of..one was mint i think the price was 1500 on one and 1200 on the real nice one..also a shattuck 8 ga single with 36 inch barrel that weighed 13 1/2 lbs..never seen that many 8 ga single barrels at one time...once there was a davenport for sale on a british gun auction site it had fluid steel barrel and a 4 inch chamber sale price was about 1700 americn dollars i wanted that gun bad but could not figer how to get it back to the usa at that time...charlie

The Beretta sold a couple of hours ago and I was not aggressive in my bidding and lost it. If someone here was the successful bidder, please let us know.

Eldon Goddard 02-21-2015 06:32 PM

Bill I watched on the internet live. Was going to bid but my max 2200 went by so fast it did not even matter. I did not expect the 5000 hammer price that is close to 6000 depending on buyers premium.

charlie cleveland 02-21-2015 08:13 PM

i seen a ultra nice belgium 10 ga this evening it was a modern 3 1/2 inch gun..much nicer than most spanish 10 ga...really nice gun...i just ca nt buy all of them thats the trouble...this 8 ga double woulda been a nice one....charlie

Bill Murphy 02-22-2015 08:35 AM

Bill Zachow, Providence, Rhode Island and Norwich, Connecticut. Mine was made in Norwich.

Dave Noreen 02-22-2015 10:38 AM

A pair of Davenport 8-gauge singles changed hands in Las Vegas.
