Krieghoff K-32
A friend hooked me up with a Krieghoff K-32 about a week before Xmas !
I hadn't owned one of these since about 93 or 94 !!!! This one was made in February of 1962 so I think it's more then likely got the left over Remington 32 parts inside not that that's a big deal to me . The gun is stocked like a trap gun and the barrels are 30" M&F . Also the LOP at the moment is about 13 1/2" . It should get a nice new KickEez sometime this week . It might be sent out for Briley screw ins and later to Kolar for a set of AAA tubes ! Then I'll be back like I was 25 years ago , the one gun for Skeet , Trap and Sporting Clays  http://i50.photobucket.com/albums/f3...psf0cf5d37.png http://i50.photobucket.com/albums/f3...ps6d663adb.png http://i50.photobucket.com/albums/f3...psced30f0f.png http://i50.photobucket.com/albums/f3...psed43232e.png http://i50.photobucket.com/albums/f3...ps6168e862.png As far as O/U's go it's a slight understatement to say I like the Krieghoff K-32/80 , the Remington 32 and the Browning Superposed . |
Nice gun good luck with it.
I'm with you on the remington 32 they are special Tom |
Is your new K-32 case colored on the receiver? Linda and I both shoot Model 32s. Hers is a Briley tubed gun and mine is Kolar. Mine has shot in competition for 47 years now.

When I started the skeet/trap disorder back about 81 or so I started with a new Browning Citori 4 barrel set and a used Franchi 2003 Combo set . Think I used that Browning about 18 months and traded it for a Remington 3200 with Purbaigh tubes , the 3200 had belonged to Don Karges or so I was told and he had shot the fire out of it before I ever got it . Scores progressed a bit with the 3200 then I decided to go up a notch and debated Perazzi vs Krieghoff . Spaghetti versus Sauer Kraut ! Eventually I decided to go the Krieghoff way and got a then new K-32 from Allem with Kolar AAA's in an Americase with a bit higher graded wood . Later I changed to an adjustable comb stock and added a couple used K-80 trap barrels . About a year after that I got a very nice used medium monte carlo Bavarian grade K-80 stock from Creekwood in Texas . After a couple months with that stock on the gun my skeet averages went from high B low A to AA/AAA across the board . My trap scores also shot up . I doubt seriousely if I have that ability or dedication left in me any longer but it will be nice to have what I consider a normal trap/skeet/sporting setup  |
Well I seemed to have backed into a couple K-32 monte carlo trap stock sets . So instead of trying to fix the knicks in this stock I may just swap it out !
One of them is supposed to be what I would call a medium monte carlo and the other is the high monte carlo usually seen with Vandalia rib guns or atleast that's been my experience ! |
It may be of interest to those here that the Remington 32/K-80 was originally an English design. This excerpt from one of my upcoming books:
"Churchill, delivered his first XXV “Premiere” over/under gun to American client, Philip Miller. This Churchill gun was a cross breed of sorts, borrowing elements from both the Boss and Woodward over/unders. A British writer/inventor named Arnold Chevallier worked with Churchill on the design. They later submitted a different version of their concept to Remington Arms in the USA – who eventually used it as the basis for Remington’s Model 32/3200. After WWII, Krieghoff modified this design a bit more and brought it out as their K-80." |
What is your research that ties the sliding breech lock Remington 32 to British designs or finished products? Where does the Petrik fit in?
|
You can reference Don Masters "House of Churchill." For the rest, I'm afraid you'll have to wait until the book's out.
|
Thanks. Congratulations on your new work.

The Krieghoff gunsmith I use told me that any K32 with a serial number below about 2400 could have from very few to almost all remington parts and the rest Krieghoff parts. They are difficult to work on since all the parts have to fitted depending on which parts are used and where. I have shot K32's for 40 years and have never shot anything I liked any better. Carvel

Just got finished putting the pad on my K-32 !
I suspect down the road if I can shoot the gun well I'll refinish the stock and correct the couple small nicks I don't care for ! But before that I want to send the gun to Briley and have them install their "Thinline" flush choke tubes and a set of sub gauge tubes ! Here's the gun with the new Kick Eez pad installed . LOP is 13 15/16" . http://i50.photobucket.com/albums/f3...ps301c431c.jpg http://i50.photobucket.com/albums/f3...ps19755c22.jpg |

What gunsmith do you use , Pylinski , the guy in Jersey or Allem ? |
I go to Ottsville, but not to have a stock fitted.

I use Earnest Marlette in Winston Salem N.C. 1-336-456-1818. Some times it takes a while it get in touch with him but is very good and has all the parts. Carvel

Most of the guys I shoot skeet with use him and have had good luck. The only issue I have ever had has been some times it has been hard to get in touch with him. Carvel

I own a Krieghoff K32 (no.1761) that I bought it in 1962 as I remember. It is a skeet gun and I can't even estimate how many zillion shells have gone thru it. I shot it at every thing (living and inanimate) until I started back with family Parkers for hunting. I have a Rem 32 TC also and have mistakenly managed to interchange fore ends from time to time. Weird feeling when you realize it. The old Rem 32 is pretty tired (1 receiver- 4 sets of barrels) but she answers the bell. The K32 appears indestructible. Both are among the best.

I think it was about 2009 he brought a pair of them in the shop in boxes as they were all apart . Anyway he wanted my gunsmith buddy to reassemble them and sell or reblue refinish and sell . I told him I'd be interested and bought them both , put them back together reblued refinished etc . Both were skeet 32's one without a rib and the other with a solid rib . I shot the solid rib gun for 2 or 3 years and eventually sold it back to my gunsmith buddy and that's his dove gun . The other I sold to a friend as well , I pretty much doubled my money of that pair but I wish I still had the solid rib gun ! Oh BTW my K-32 is #1144 and the barrels are marked for February of 1962 . |
wasn't Damon-Petrik the inspiration for C.C. Loomis when he designed the Model 32?
and didn't he first use the design for the valmet? |
Congrats - I am a K-80/20 guy. On my last trip to get an annual service with Chris Maest in Princeton, we were discussing the K-32s. He said some of the original ones are starting to wear out. I would recommend having Chris or Earnest go over the inners before you put much more money into the gun. Billy

Bob, I guess we'll find out the truth when we read the Churchill book. John, what is the title of your upcoming book?

I haven't had the guts to sell mine yet!
|
Chris Maest may think many of the older K-32s are wearing out, but my 49 year old example is not among them. Chris has worked on mine and didn't give me that warning.
|
mines pushing 47 and all I had to do was replace a cocking rod. that's it. I still use the old springs. no issues whatsoever.

My K32, 7237 with a Vandalia rib, was my go to clays gun for years. Just after Dan Lammers left Ottsville many years ago he completely refinished the stock and forearm for me by removing that ugly red finish, bending the stock for cast-on, turning the forearm into a schnabel and giving the wood an oil finish to die for. While he had it he also installed K80 internal parts. The gun is built like a tank.
|
Daryl, I have a set of Vandalia barrels for my (now 50) year old K-32. Odd that now everyone has to have a high rib. Vandalia barrel guns could be bought for $1000 twenty years ago. How times change.

When I got the gun I picked out some K-32 refinished wood I liked and shot it that way a few months . Then swapped a friend for some more K-32 wood with a Allem made adjustable comb . I later swapped that wood back to the same guy for some K-80 Bavarian grade wood with the medium monte carlo . When the K-80 wood got on that gun my skeet class almost overnight went from B to AA/AAA and my trap class went from C/B to A/AA and 21-25 yards . I shot that gun with the K-80 wood for a number of years and to be honest I've never had a skeet or trap gun shoot as well for me . But then I shot that gun at targets exclusively the entire time . |
K32s
And I thought trap shooters were insatiable with gun tampering. There is no limit to what competitors will do for one more target. My old K32 is as it left Ulm am Donau except for 2 Edwards recoil reducers, some leather glued to the buttplate, and some red model paint where the ivory fell out of the front sight. Love that gun. Just got too heavy for the field any more. Still my go to skeet gun.

odd to me how people call the old 32 red sile wood ugly. its truly vogue 60-70's and reflects the era of the gun. I like it. maybe because all my furniture in my living room is mahogany and cherry.
maybe? who knows. but one thing for sure is that old red wood glows in the sunlight and there is no doubt you have a k-gun in your hands. I agree with bill. interesting how everyone today has to have high ribs. I like low ribs, much like parkers. I shoot flying elbows and like to lock a gun tight into my face. low elbows and high ribs is just too much side play looking to send my shot wild. the old Vandalia ribs are in high demand today. they are the same as most standard k80 ribs in height and taper. so having one commands a premium, as more shooters who cant afford a real k80 go in search for a k32 with k80 features. I have a build in progress utilizing a 12ga 28" Vandalia m/f bbl, converted with briley screw in's. it will have a js cushion (red sile) wood set and a nickel r&i. anyone want to nibble? lmk! btw, I have another build going on. its going to be my club loaner for kids. its a 26" Europa bbl'ed purbaugh tube set with red skeet sile wood. needs a r&i. leads would be appreciated. the old owner got rid of the Europa r&i and never finished his upgrade project. he had Europa gun #10 and the cast receiver gave him issues. sadly, he ran out of life. hate to see good guns go to waste. must make them go boom again! even if it was just as a favor to his legacy. |
Sorry - R&I?
