Expert assistance please

Help Please;. I have a Parker GHE 12 gauge #202740. I would like to have the condition of the gun determined. I live in South Florida and need the name of a person respected in the field who could determine the condition for me (I assume there is a fee and I would need to know that also)

Why not post a god number of high resolution pictures here? You'll get some honest answers from some very experienced folks. You may or may not agree with some of the opinions but they'll all be honest ones.

I too have a question for the experts. Should I use duct tape or electrical tape to fix this stock ? Attached is a pretty good photo.

Richard Flanders 08-21-2014 06:27 PM

Ahh, just shoot it as it is Bruce....

Todd Kaltenbach 08-21-2014 06:40 PM

I would use duct tape and maybe so #9 wire.

Gary Rennles 08-21-2014 10:09 PM

#9 wire will work fine, but duct tape is the old way to do it. Clear scotch tape is a much better way to go , looks a lot nicer.

My personal favorite is Guerrilla tape but you might want to check with charlie Cleveland. He may be the foremost authority on this type of repair. Perhaps he will chime in on the subject.

charlie cleveland 08-21-2014 10:26 PM

i personally likea hose clamp andsome of waynes gorilla tape or duct tape..if this dont fix it you ll need to call brian and get him to widdle out one....the old 8 ga silent auction gun s stock is a work of art.i will get it out and have a picture took and post it in a few minutes...charlie

Charlie whats that behind the selous plate. A new form of checkering.

Bruce Day 08-21-2014 11:11 PM

I knew we had some experts here!

Not everything a person needs to know about Parkers is in TPS.

charlie cleveland 08-21-2014 11:16 PM

wayne that is the kind of checkering you get when ordering a punt gun..someone has had this old gun in a vise of somekind both sides of stock is this way..the rib is 1/2 inch highand solid steel and i bet there is over a pound of silver solder in the rib and under the fore arm..i should have put the slip on band that came with it to keep the barrels closed... if you notice the hose clamp i put on this gun s stock is the 4 th thing done to repair the stock first copper sheet metal 2 nd was copper wire wrapped around stock 3 rd was everthing soldered together 4 th hose clamp put on by me...shes a shooter now... charlie

Brian Dudley 08-21-2014 11:21 PM

Better idea for all of those. Part them out. Parts have to come from somewhere.

charlie cleveland 08-21-2014 11:26 PM

i guess we have done every thing but answer bruces question about his gun the ghe parker..first let me apoligize for getting off track..a gh with ejectors will be higher in value than a gh..a good place to look to get and idea how much the gun s worth is on gunbroker...some of us here would probly give you a ball park figure if we had some pictures to look at...again sorry for getting off course...charlie

You guys are WAY off. Nothing beats a good old #10 or #12 flat head wood screw . . . preferably carbon steel. Six or seven usually do the job.

I think your GH is a very nice gun, in what appears to be, in super condition. Either that's the nicest GH piece of wood ever, or it's plastic. Oh, wait. I remember my mother bought some nice walnut contact paper once.
It's way nicer than Bruce's single shot SxS.

Edgar: "It's way nicer than Bruce's single shot SxS." I didn't know anyone had something nicer than Bruce's guns, except maybe the turnip farmer. Enjoy seeing the like new and patched up ones. Bob

wayne goerres 08-22-2014 09:45 PM

Very nice piece of wood on that gun.

Rich Anderson 08-22-2014 09:55 PM

That's one very nice GH and it has a great piece of wood to boot. very, very nice:bowdown:

David Noble 08-22-2014 11:24 PM

Bruce, your GHE is quite nice! The condition of Parker shotguns is based heavily on the case colors. The pictures you provided are good but not ideal for determining the amount of case colors remaining. I realize that you are asking for opinions on condition and not value but the one usually leads to the other. Let's look at a scenario. One gun might have 95 percent finish on the barrels and wood but just 20 percent case colors and be valued at X amount of dollars. Another gun with the same 95 percent finish on the barrels and wood but also 90 percent case colors remaining could easily be valued at 3X! I think it's fairly clear that your gun does not have that high degree of colors remaining but the engraving looks sharp and the wood is outstanding. I hope someone here knows a qualified person in your area to accurately determine the condition of your gun. All I can say is that it's appearance is better than average.

charlie cleveland 08-22-2014 11:32 PM

its a very nice gun you have..my opinion of what it would sell for is in the 2250 to 2500 range.. charlie

Bruce all that old east coast refugee needs is an upgraded piece of wood. I could be persuaded to part with this fine example

Bruce Shaffner 08-24-2014 03:31 PM

being a new guy at the Parker site. I put the pictures in an album and it is on my site but do I need to post another request with the pictures attached or something else ???
