Alderfers Auction in Hatfield Pa

A fun day at Alderfers Auction today. The AHE 28 ga. Sold for $50K. The DHE 20 ga. 32 inch gun brought 10K. The LC 20 Crown, which was in fine condition, brought 19K. A nice GHE 20 brought 4K. A Model 21 Custom 12 ga. Skeet with Grade 6 engraving fetched an astounding, to me, 19K. The VHE 28 ga. on a O frame sold for 9K. A Browning Pigeon 28 skeet hammered at 5K. I thought there were some very good buys today on some very nice guns.

Bill: Do you know what the Fox XE sold for? Thanks Craig

tom tutwiler 07-15-2014 08:15 PM

Ditto on the Fox. I know one member of this board who ordered a card on that particular gun. Hoping he was the high bidder.

Bill Davis 07-15-2014 08:26 PM

Yes. It sold for $6000 plus the juice of 17-20%.

Bill Murphy 07-15-2014 08:56 PM

It was a great auction. If you need a shotgun, it was the place to be. I'm sorry I didn't get to meet Bill Davis, or did I?

Chuck Bishop 07-15-2014 09:21 PM

Bill,

I was there along with Murphy, McCormack, and Howard Loewensteiner. Too bad we didn't meet, or did we??? I'm assuming your the Bill Davis from NJ that I'm always doing letters for:)

To my untrained eyes, the AHE looked original, to some others, the engraving was suspect and to others, they had reservations as to whether the barrels were replacements. We'll never know because there are no records on this gun.

Mills Morrison 07-15-2014 11:20 PM

These auctions are a great way to see what Parkers are really selling for. That GHE 20 for $4,000 would be awfully tempting

Bill Davis 07-15-2014 11:57 PM

Yes--I'm the Bill Davis from NJ. And no Bill Murphy, we did not meet. I'll make sure to introduce myself next time we are at the same place! Maybe Vegas? I was there with Ken Goldenberg.

I was there and I also thought the engraving on the 28ga AHE didn't look right to me, it looked like late Remington and the gun was made in 1920. On the other hand I don't see many 28ga AHE

Sounds like this is a reliable auction house.

I won't mention the name or even the initials of a major Midwest (near to where I live in Downers Grove) auction house, but the other day in a phone call, when I asked about smaller gauge Parkers, both the real ones and even the Reproductions as well, the rep. told me that at their last auction they sold a near mint AAHE .410 for $45,000. That seems strange, as my copy of the 35th. Edition of the Blue Book, on page 1457- shows only the AAHE in 28 gauge, but not in .410? Giving him the benefit of the doubt, Parker did apparently offer the .410 in the AHE grade however, a possible error??

In fairness, the Cabelas' gun libraries in IL also often describe a double as having ejectors, when in reality they are extractor guns.

My father-in-law hunts quail in FL in the Winter months- he is looking at a Parker Reproduction in .410- they fetch less than a Meriden Parker .410 of course, but are the Reproductions worth the current asking price?

I posted about a week ago of my suspicions about the AHE. There were no records anywhere that an AHE or a 28ga with that serial number ever existed. Could it have just slipped thru the cracks? Possibly. Was it an upgrade? Probably. Either way, that thread got deleted.

Howard Loewensteiner 07-16-2014 11:51 AM

I looked at the gun. The engraver at the time this gun would have been made was Fredrick Anshutz. It looked like Runge style of engraving.

Bill Murphy 07-16-2014 12:06 PM

The AAHE .410 that sold for $45,000 would be an upgrade. We would like to look at the auction description if you will share the name of the auction house with us.

RIA

Sorry, Mr. Murphy, I don't know the exact time it was sold by RIA, but from what Joe, the rep. e-mailed me, I believe it was in the last several auctions they have held in 2014. If it were a 90% original AHE .410 gauge made in Meriden, I would think perhaps 6 figures "hammer down" price??

Ditto.

If real, that A grade .410 would be one rare prize! I hope it is so.

There is only one AHE .410 known to have been made. There are plenty of upgrades.

Bill Murphy 07-20-2014 06:53 PM

The only known AHE .410, a 28" skeet gun, in field used condition, hammered for $116,000, no buyer's premium, but possibly 6% sales tax, several years ago. I have not seen it surface since. It is an absolutely original documented gun with some modification to the butt end and field use. I don't have a comment on the AHE 28 gauge although I spent a bit of time with it.

dwight pugh 07-20-2014 07:52 PM

6 grand was a deal on a Fox XE

Bill Murphy 07-21-2014 09:14 AM

Yup, I don't own it, but it rode home in my truck. I have first right of refusal if the new owner tires of it.

dwight pugh 07-21-2014 10:35 AM

put me down after you.......i probably won't live that long though...haha

Your father in law might want to consider a CSM Fox in 410. I have no idea what a Reproduction Parker 410 would bring but I bought a very nice Fox FE for less than a VH Parker 410.
