Another long barreled, small-bore
Been chasing this one for quite a while. "The Book" says only 221 20
ga. V-grades were made with 32" barrels and with a straight stock I imagine this is actually a fairly rare bird. Looks like the colors have been redone as they are a little over the top but it's a really sweet gun that balances very well. Per the letter, the gun was sold in October 1917 to Walter Cooley, Place Hardware, San Francisco, CA for $45 Specs (all letter): 20 ga VHE DAH = 2-1/4" DAC = 1-5/8" LOP = 14-1/4" #1 Frame 2-7/8" chambers (letters) 32" barrels choked Full/Full Weight: 6-lbss. 12-ozs. http://i115.photobucket.com/albums/n...pslgxbun4i.jpghttp://i115.photobucket.com/albums/n...pskqxz2tpy.jpg http://i115.photobucket.com/albums/n...psnfhxrisw.jpg |
Very nice Jay. Take a little Flitz very carefully to those colors and you can tone them down a little. Looks like a great shooter.

Thanks, Eric. Can't wait to get it out to the range. I am really excited to have this one in my safe. Certainly not a grouse gun but it will be hell on doves and, if I can find suitable non-tox loads I am thinking it will be fun for woodies and teal. Stay tuned…
Hope to be out at the shoot on the 10th. If so I'll bring it with me. Cheers |
Great gun. And nice quartered oak roll top desk too!
|
Beautiful piece. With a @ 2-1/4" DAH, whoever ordered it in 1917 was an experienced shooter. Those dimensions would have been more typical on English doubles at the time.
It must handle like a dream. |
I agree, the fellow who ordered the gun know exactly what he wanted. The fun comes up like a dream. The ivory mid-bead has been knocked off and I will replace. It's so sleek and the lines are wonderful.

Very nice Jay!
I've been looking for this configuration for quite a while myself. |
Very nice Jay!! I bet at just about 7 pounds and with 3" chambers the barrels are good and stout too. The case colors aren't too over the top, she'll wear in nice.

I'll take a picture of the muzzles. There is quite a bit of steel in both tubes.
|
That will make a nice clays gun as well. I have come into two 32 inch guns both 16's one hammerless the other a hammergun. I don't know what I did without them. Congrats on a nice find.

Very,very nice Jay. Congrats!

I know the man from whom Jay got the gun. Must have been a brutal negotiation.

I found a VH-16 O-frame original two barrel set listed on GI. PG-DT- two splinters, 26" ic/m and 32" imp-mod/full, its 6lbs-1oz and 6lbs 10oz 1 1/4x 2 1/8, 14 1/8 over DHBP Wood is nice, bright bores, metal may need some re-blue and bone color case to look nice??? It will arrive here in 7 to 10 days, if gun passes inspection, then off to Brad for the work...(-: IM hopping for a grouse and rooster set with stock dimensions that match close to my Parker repro's. I like stocks with those dimensions after shooting repro's for clays and hunting. SXS ohio

Sounds awesome Kenny. Can't wait to see it!

Really great looking gun. Chris Dawe is in the process of fitting up a new butt stock for me on my VH 20 gauge with 32" barrels with 2 7/8" chambers. Chris sent me a picture the other day and
It sure looks nice. Cannot wait to get it out on some birds. |
Beautiful!
BTW, if you use it enough, the colors will tone down on their own. |
