RST & the Southern
RST will not be selling shotshells at the Southern. They are not manufacturing shotshells at this time because they can not get powder.
Those of you planning to purchase RST shells at the Southern should make other arrangements. |
this will really hurt in hunting and also in trap and skeet shooting. plus the rst people were of great value to the shooting community..seems like everything is going wrong in our once great land... charlie

wow, makes me want to go out and buy every pound of powder I can find that might be useful. I'm not liking this at all.
This is bad news for sure.
Where do we get shells now? Hope this is temporary only as I love buying from the folks at RST
RST has been hit by the componet shortage just like we all have been and in the scheme of things they are a small operation and probably don't get any consideration from suppliers.
Sounds like misguided gun control if you ask me. Folks like RST and us ought to be the poster child of responsible gun ownership, but obviously others don't feel that way
Call me paranoid, but does anyone else think that OUR government's buying up 15 badillion rounds of rifle ammunition might have something to do with component shortages?
Just because you are paranoid does not mean they aren't actually out to get you.
B & P just shipped me two flats of comp ones, three day delivery. Guess the Italian government is not stocking up.

This is news I was hoping would not come. They are a fine group to do business with and are essential to our sport. I wish them luck getting through this.
I am not seeing this problem go away soon. I am good for a few years but anticipate that I won't be able to reach for any gun I please once my cache starts to thin out. One doesn't get the real story but the big producers seem to view this as temporary and I hear little about expanding production capacity. The low pressure community is not necessarily a high priority as we watch such powders be discontinued. Started the week with the RST news and again 4 below zero this AM. UGH. Just gotta keep movin'. |
We need to march on Washington. As if they would listen . . .
This could easily be the workings of the big companies trying to edge out the small guys too. |
RST is a great company. Wish I had bought more of their 10-ga shells earlier.
I was on their web site and it has shells in stock. They may not have enough for the Southern but they seem to have some to fill internet orders.

Let's hope that by this time next year we will not be trading recipes for home made black powder.
What a shame.I looked forward to seeing them at the Southern and buying my hunting rounds from them.
I hope they are able to come even if they don't sell shells. It is a pleasure seeing them and they are the kind of people you want to do business with
I just heard yesterday from a clays shooting buddy of mine that Alliant has been sold. Supposedly the new owners are requiring purchasers of their product to buy 15,000 pounds at a clip where under previous ownership the minimum order was 5,000 pounds. That is quite a change and, if true, will most certainly hurt availability.
I was dragging my feet on placing an RST order until this morning when I read this post. Figured I was too late but they shipped off three flats within a few hours. Whew.
RST has sufficient shells for normal direct orders but not enough to take trailer loads to the events and be profitable.
I ordered mine today as well. I originally planned to restock with my visit to the Southern. Bob Jurewicz |
That's the problem...Hoarding. When you hoard anything, it causes shortages and price increases...People need to step back and think..do you really need 25000 primers and 150 pounds of powder?? And shot at $42/25lb bag is ridiculous..
I was told Morris will probably attend.

That is good.

The spot price on the world market for lead has traded in a rather narrow range for the last several years.
http://www.kitcometals.com/charts/le...cal_large.html Price of shot is not following the spot price of lead. Any guesses why? |

Ive just called Alliant to see whats up?? Ive been using their powder for reloading my skeet loads now for a couple of years...Great product.. as good as Hodgdon and American made...They are now owned by a conglomerate out of Idaho....Representative on phone had not heard of them being sold....but promises to follow up...Will let you know... lead at my club has gone to 46.00 a bag, and we only have 7 1/2 and 8s ,no 9s ,is there a lead shortage also?
Hoarding is a natural act. People want what they can't have either through perception or reality. Does the Gvt really need billions of rounds of .22 ammo? They are the original hoarders but it's an end run to prevent the use of the guns they can't ban.
Let me introduce you to the subject of logistics. It boils down to "plan for the worst, hope for the best".
My name is Mark and I am a hoarder... That stated, I never let a friend go without powder regardless of their lack of planning! |

We are hoarders, but there are still plenty of Parkers out there. I don't know how to calculate the amount of shotgun ammo I'll need to keep me happy until I'm gone. I have friends that lived well into the nineties and they were still shooting. I plan to start shooting NSSA skeet again in a couple of years when I attain Veteran status. That is a neat concurrent group to shoot in. You don't have to run 100s in every gun, every shoot, to get a little recognition and win a dollar or two. The same situation exists in NSCA.

Alliant just called back...rep said ...they haven't been bought by anyone........He may not know the skinny.. but..........

Those aligned against the average American are mighty....and they have huge sums of money to spend to convince you that all is going to "hell in a hand basket"...Don't believe it
