WARNING... WARNING

I just received a PM from the "New Member" StopAdmin Titled "Important message from the forum administration"

This is NOT a message from our forum administrators!!

Dave Suponski 01-28-2010 11:33 AM

I got the same message. Delete this message from your PM folder without opening it!

Robin Lewis 01-28-2010 11:36 AM

FYI, I'm turning off the ability to get PM's but I'll leave email on.

Erick Dorr 01-28-2010 11:43 AM

PM scam

If you happen to open the message as I did. Do not click to close or click dialog box that pops-up. Instead click on Task Manager and close the window. It may say it cannot close because it is waiting for a response. Choose end task now.

Erick

PS hopefully real adm will ferret this out quickly

Rich Anderson 01-28-2010 11:44 AM

I got it also and didn't open it. I wonder why we are getting these all of a sudden.....maybe it's those Fox collectors:rolleyes:

Dave Miles 01-28-2010 12:31 PM

Me too.

Harry Collins 01-28-2010 12:36 PM

I received it too and deleted it. It looked suspicious, so naturally I did not click the link. The other names are actually PGCA members as well. I copied the message below for reference, but deleted the link for obvious reasons:

Brian Dillard 01-28-2010 04:31 PM

Me too...with another four names attached. I thought it was for real but came here to look first before opening it.
Thanks to all for the updates.

Gill Frye 01-28-2010 06:35 PM

I just deleted mine...

Noel Curtis 01-28-2010 08:15 PM

I received the message as well, but with different members listed then the ones you posted Marvin!

Angel Cruz 01-28-2010 08:33 PM

As much as I hate to say this, and I know a lot of you guys won't like it, but I think it would be best if only PGCA members were able to send PM. I know we all send PM to forum visitors when they are "fishing" but I see this as an attrack on OUR site..

Pat Dugan 01-28-2010 09:20 PM

Angel is right, let only members private message. The fishermen can post their e mail address and that way non members can't mess with our system.

Tim Sheldon 01-28-2010 09:52 PM

I got the notice also. Did not open because I know the PGCA is a good bunch of guys, but, I just couldn't get the idea that the admins would really care if my old rattle trap of a computer had a bug or not.

It is too bad that we have to be suspicious of every darn thing, but we do.

Tim

We just received this one moments ago.

scott kittredge 01-30-2010 10:20 AM

and they keep coming :banghead:

Rich Anderson 01-30-2010 10:29 AM

I received two more PM's from the "Forum administration" dated 1/30. I just deleted them. I wish John could block these some way.

Joe Wood 01-30-2010 12:53 PM

I opened it but fortunately my AVG antivirus program stopped it dead in its' track. Now a WARNING: I entered the Parker site via normal route (internet explorer) and checked my private messages. Sure enough the same phishing messages are there! Delete them without opening! So, it appears to me they have taken over the Parker site. Think I'll stay away for a while.

George Lander 01-30-2010 04:26 PM

Now that's a d----d shame that this idiot has nothing better to do. I just deleted three thanks to advice from Asa Kelly. I would really like to find out who the culprit is and use my Parker in a somewhat differt way.

What did AV Find

What did your AV software find?

John Dunkle 01-30-2010 05:54 PM

Hi from Haiti...

Finally have a sporadic Internet connection down here.. Saw what was happening here when I logged in - and a couple of notes..

Deleted all the PM these idiots have sent... So if you had one - it's gone...

Second - until I get back to the USA - All new member registrations will have to be approved BEFORE they can post or send PMs...

Sorry if this inconveniences any newly registered members, but - silly things require silly measures...

Anyway - have to get off line before the electricity goes out - or the internet connection...

Best to all!

John

John Dunkle 02-09-2010 05:38 PM

Hey folks...

Just as an update.....

Last week while overseas - I amended the registration process a bit. What happens now is that folks can "register" - BUT - they can not PM or post until I approve their registration... I've been giving this a "test drive" for over a week - and it seems to work pretty well...

In addition - it lets me review their registrations beforehand for those that miss the rules of the site which requires someones first and last name - which is also a benefit both to them (stops folks from flaming the new folks) - and, well - "me" - having to go in and fix their posts/login after the fact...

Best to you!

John

tom tutwiler 02-09-2010 06:00 PM

I got several of those and didn't open a one. This isn't my first rodeo on these kind of attacks, but I gotta admit it, this one almost made be open it. I think I received it three times.
