Correcting a DH Straight Grip Conversion
15 Attachment(s)
This DH came to me as an assembled 2 barrel set. The original 28" Barrels were with it and an additional set of 30" VH barrels with matching forend. The original DH forend was missing from the whole ensamble. The VH splinter forend interchanged, but the customer wished to have a BTFE put on the shorter 28" barrels. A replcement forend iron and latch from a GH was used for the additional metal and I fitted up a semi-inletted BTFE that I had laying around to it and the gun.
Attachment 32034 Attachment 32035 Attachment 32036 Attachment 32037 The second part of this project was that the gun had already been restocked in the past and was converted to a straight grip. However, the original PG guard was just flattened out and used. And the stocker got creative with the checkering pattern that they laid down with that short guard. Attachment 32038 Attachment 32039 Attachment 32040 The owner wished for the grip and checkering to be more correct for a Parker. I used a spare Straight Grip guard and inletted it into the stock. Polished it out, fitted new screws for it and had Geoffroy Gournet engrave it with the proper DH design and the serial number. There was enough wood to work with, so the former grip checkering was whiped out completely. A few other minor matters with the stock were tended to, as well as polishing out someone elses engraved name on the stock oval. Everything was refinished and proper checkering for a straight grip was cut in. All the while having to work around the leather covered pad that could not come off due to it not having any plugs for screws. Very nice job !

Very nice clean up on that short tang-
|
Nice job again Brian. I'd like to see the butt stock that went with the BTF. Did you use a recoil rod through the forarm?
|
That BTFE was a roughed out semi-inlet. I got it with a lot of parts that I bought a while back. I did not use the draw bolt since I was using a standard iron.
I was happy with how the forend matched the buttstock as an overall package. Goes together well. |
Excellent job Brian. I am impressed by your work!

Looks great Brian. I really like the wood in that forearm.
|
Brian, I think my buddy Mike will be very happy with the results

Damn Brian, that's some great work. Really impressive! The pad adds some character to the whole job.

Very impressive and inspiring. Thanks for shareing the pictures.

Very nice Brian. Impressive work! Thanks for sharing.

Brian, Mike and I shot sporting today so I had a chance to view your work first hand. Very nice. That slim beavertail is exactly what I had envisioned for that gun. Mike shot it fairly well today.
|
Thanks Dave.
That forend was a semi-Inletted one that I had hanging around. The wood matched the butt pretty nicely. That buttstock is LONG! I asked Mike if he shot it well and he said he did. So he didn't want it altered. I think it was over 15" long. |
