Good Day Today!

Took my GSP & VH out to find some quail. Not bad for a dog that has never been trained...

Quail quota hunt at Blackwater WMA, I think they release the birds. It is in the quail restoration area.

Nice, I'm going to have and check that out. Thanks...

Day 2

Day 2 of quail hunting, this time with my PH. This gun originally had 26" barrels and somebody cut them to 25". I now have a new favorite quail gun!

My German Shorthair, a natural! No formal training, just tennis balls with quail sent on them since he was 12 weeks...

Florida Quail Quota Hunt

FWC does not put birds out, but hunters can release birds 2 days prior to hunting. I did talk to another group, they put out 80 birds out on Sunday.

It's minus 14 here with the wind and a high tomorrow in the single digits. I can have Daisy (my GSP) and a couple of small bore Parkers ready in less than an hour just PM me the directions:rotf:

All kidding aside thats a nice looking dog and he gets to hunt Quail:bowdown:

It's 9 degrees without the wind right now. The dogs stay out just long enough to get their job done. I would need insulated underware, carharts, gloves that wouldn't allow the use of a double trigger gun, boots with felt liners, a wool stocking cap, sunglasses for the glare from the snow and snowshoes.....I think I'll stay inside and read a book:rotf:

So if I understand this right hunters release birds at their own expense and must wait 48 hours to hunt them? Kinda like a reverse put and take proposition. Can anyone hunt these areas even if they didn't release the birds?

There is a lottery for 4 spots in each 8- 2 day hunts. Each winner is allowed a guest. So there would only be 8 hunters total to cover about 1000 acres. I'm not convinced that it is "legal" to place birds as I have yet to find anything in the WMA's rules.

Mills Morrison 02-07-2014 07:40 PM

I wish they would do something like in SC or Georgia.

charlie cleveland 02-08-2014 05:57 PM

and wish they would do this in mississippi...charlie
