Photos 2014 Raffle Gun
8 Attachment(s)
A week or so ago there was a thread http://parkerguns.org/forums/showthr...ghlight=raffle that announced this years PGCA Raffle gun as a D grade top lever hammer gun. We could not show pictures at that time because PGCA member Brian Dudley had the gun and was working his magic in order to make this year’s gun something very special that anyone would be proud to own and shoot. The PGCA owes Brian a debt of gratitude for his quick response and attention to detail. I think if anyone was wondering if they should trust Brian to work on their prized Parker the answer is in these photos.
I would also again like to thank PGCA member and past Chairman John Davis for generously donating this fine gun for the benefit of the PGCA. This gun will be on display for all to see at many of the upcoming events we attend through out the year. Please enjoy the pictures and be sure to get your tickets when they become available. Edit by John D. - pics uploaded ;) |
Great looking gun, any one would be proud to her for sure! Lots of engraving for a grade 3 gary

Whoa. Nice gun.
|
That gun looks really great Brian.

Whoah! Brian, having seen this gun on several occasions prior to you getting your hands on it, I can attest to the great work here. It was a nice gun to start with, but it looks fantastic now.
I've been wanting a D Grade Hammer Gun for some time now, and would be proud to own this one. Time to start saving my money for ticket books! Mike |
All of you PGCA members should send in lots of purchased tickets but you should also resign yourselves to being disappointed because I'm going to win this nice old gun.
Very nice work Brian! John (aka Wind In His Hair) |

Very nice pictures Larry. Please send me some for Parker Pages.

Yeah, and one year a buddy of mine bought his ticket a few hours before the dinner and won the raffle gun. Go figure.
|
So what is the process for getting raffle tickets?
|

If you want more PM me or email me at morganedj@hotmail.com. with address and number of books wanted. Each book has 6 tickets. $25. per book.

Brian, what did you do to spruce up the gun? I'm guessing a stock refinishing and checkering recut. If you did refinish the stock, what type of finish did you use?
Big thanks to John Davis for a wonderful donation:clap: |
Thanks for posting the photos Larry. It was a pleasure to work on this gun and it made me want one myself. Hammer guns higher than grade 2 are not very often seen for sale. This one has very nice barrel finish and it shoulders nicely. It has good dimensions.
This gun had its wood pretty messed up by both wear and a poor checkering recut. The forend had an attempt and a full cover checkering job that got out of control by the back and the lines were going in all sorts of directions. The buttstocks finish was ok, but all the detail at the head and wrist was worn away. Drop points were there, but worn almost flat and the "hump" that comes to a point on the top was completely indistinguishable. The checkering on the wrist was also very messed up. Lots of over runs and the patterns was not the same from side to side. I had to completely wipe out all of the checkering on the wrist, and I was able to re define the drop points and the pointed "hump" in the process. This called for also re inletting the stock shield. Due to all that work, the stock needed to be refinished. Checkering all recut new. And the butt checkering recut. The forend was beyond repair so it was replaced, finished and checkered. The finish is an amber shellac with a very thin top coat of Tru Oil. |
Good job for sure.

Is the Raffle Gun section of the "Parker Store" on the home page going to be updated with the 2014 information?
I want to post a link to it on my website as to maybe try and drive some sales. |
I would feel very guilty about buying one ticket and winning that gun. But I would get over it.
|
Unfortunately the sections of the PGCA website available through the Home page are not currently being maintained. I would offer my services IF I had more time on my hands with less to do than I currently have.
