New Galazan guns

On the back cover of my current CSMC catalog is a picture of a target O/U that looks much like a K-80. Has anyone handled one of these? There is also a Turkish O/U offered at a very reasonable price. Has anyone handled one of these.

John Dallas 01-10-2014 03:43 PM

An hour ago, I just picked up my new Inverness 20 gauge o/u. (after nearly a 2 year wait!) I don't have the CSM catalog in front of me, but I wouldn't call this similar to a K80, It's a round body. Doesn't have a hooded top latch. Seems like a nice gun. Am looking forward to shooting it as soon as I get the cast off my broken hand

Ed Blake 01-10-2014 03:54 PM

Congratulations. How do you like it? That's not the gun I'm referring to.

John Dallas 01-10-2014 04:23 PM

Seems to handle well, Has a 15" LOP ( good for me - I'm 6'4") Has a high gloss plastic finish. Wish it had an oil finish

I've just arrived at our up north cabin. Harrowing drive. The last 30 miles at 30 MPH. Slippery stuff. Didn't bring the gun. Will try to post on Monday/Tuesday. Am up to participate in our first evening of curling at the Lewiston Curling Club. Anyone have any tips?

Dean Romig 01-10-2014 08:50 PM

Yeah, don't toss with the broken hand....

Bill Murphy 01-11-2014 11:09 AM

Yup, the new competition CSMC gun is not the Inverness. My Inverness took 18 months and was worth the wait. Next, I get to order the new over under Model 21. I guess that will happen at the Southern, because Vegas is off the calendar for me.

Bill Zachow 01-13-2014 07:24 AM

While Tony makes beautiful guns in general, I would bet that the Winchester guys would not be impressed with the O/U model 21. Too slab sided caused by a too deep frame.

Bill Murphy 01-13-2014 09:30 AM

Bill, in appearance, the new Model 21 receiver is very much in character and appearance with the thirties prototype Model 21 over under pictured in Ned Schwing's book on the Model 21. You will have to see one up close to appreciate how shallow the action really is. I think it's kind of neat how Tony could take the Rizzini cloned action and shape it like a Model 21. Whether "first responders" to the ads like it or not, I have to have one. In my old age, I have to have something to shoot other than the eights and tens.

Ed Blake 01-13-2014 10:39 AM

So what is that gun in the back of the catalog that looks like a K80? I can't find it on the website.

CraigThompson 01-13-2014 03:57 PM

Don't get me wrong I like my Parker's Smith's and Fox's as well as a number of english and continetal guns .

But the Remington 32 , Krieghoff K-32 and K-80 are the epitome of target/bird O/U's . Now with that being said I like my Superposed Brownings and I am sure a Purdy or Boss O/U is the figurative pooh . But for the life of me I've never owned handled or fired a gun on the skeet/trap fields that felt as good as a 32 or 80 .

Bill Zachow 01-14-2014 07:26 AM

Bill, good luck with it when you get one. It's probably just me, but I never cared for the 21, even as a side by side. Too heavy, even in the smaller gauges. Now a nice svelte 8 gauge Parker with 36" barrels is something else........

Bill Murphy 01-14-2014 09:51 AM

Bill, it's all in how we grow up. I bought my first Parker when I was 14. I became trapped in the shooting, hunting, outdoor culture. Our local Western Auto dealer lived at the top of our hill, was a good friend of my Dad's. I bought all of my fishing and bicycle stuff at his store from the time I was about eight years old. One Saturday, my Dad and I were in the store and Mr. Rhinehart gave me a 1955 Winchester catalog, the big red and yellow one. I still have the catalog, which was my dream book when I was growing up. The price list for that catalog convinced me that Model 21s were for the super elite, but I still dogeared the catalog, even to this day. Oddly, just a few years later, my Dad and I would share in the purchase of a cased pair of 12 and 20 gauge Model 21s, located in a classified ad in the Washington Post. I hunted with the 12 gauge all through my last year of high school, through college, and finally traded it for a Parker single a few years later. That 12 gauge 21 didn't have a stitch of blue on it from the trigger to midway up the forend. I had hunted with that gun, shot skeet, trap, you name it, for just about eight years when it went away. By that time, I had a good selection of Parkers, but have never been without a 21 either. My Dad's 20 gauge is still here, along with a few more.

OK here are pix of my new Inverness 20. Case colored, standard wood, 15" LOP. Got the cast off my hand yesterday - will shoot it on Sunday. sorry for the poor quality pix. Taken in the man cave

Bill Murphy 01-15-2014 07:52 AM

John, how did the special order stock length come about? Can anyone do that?

John Dallas 01-15-2014 08:45 AM

Bill - I dunno. 15" is noted on the spec sheet - no charge indicated. The order was placed nearly two years ago. Hell, I can't remember what I had for breakfast yesterday. I would have opted for whatever length I could get. As I said, I'm tall and longer stocks feel more comfortable to me. It has a thin orange rubber pad that isn't my favorite, but then again, it ain't a bespoke Purdey. My RBL had the longer stock option also.

Paul Stafford 01-16-2014 09:55 PM

I just had one of those and the A-10 in my hands at the Shot Show, very well made guns. I'm sure your going to love it.

Bill Murphy 01-17-2014 07:59 AM

John, I seem to recall seeing a late Inverness with a brown or black pad. I'll remember what you said about putting little add ons on the order sheet. Mine came in about 14 1/2, which is fine.

John Dallas 01-17-2014 02:12 PM

Opened mine up yesterday to disable the automatic safety. Everything inside seems tidy, but what do I know. I pull the trigger, most of the targets fall down. Isn't that why I bought it?

charlie cleveland 01-17-2014 07:39 PM

i need to trade you outa that gun most of the time when i pull the trigger don t nothing fall....charlie

Michael Murphy 01-17-2014 08:03 PM

I've had my Inverness for awhile now. Has 30" barrels, which I like a lot and 15" lop, which I don't. Have to get that shortened for my stubby arms. Had it out to South Dakota fall of last year. Piled up the Pheasants over a five day hunt.
Like Bill, I drooled over model 21's in my youth. I now have a few and yes they are "heavy" in 12ga., but I like them a lot and seem to shoot them well.

John Dallas 01-17-2014 08:04 PM

Charlie - Whatcha got? Just about anything I have except my wife and dog are on the block

Dave Noreen 01-17-2014 09:57 PM

No sighting of the gun on the back cover of the recent catalogue in the Galazan booth at the Antique & Sporting Arms Shows in Las Vegas. But, it is also on the cover of their 2014 calander!!

Michael Murphy 01-18-2014 07:17 AM

Ed, I don't have a current catalog, but CSMC did make up an A-10 dedicated Sporting Clays gun that they referred to as "The Hammer". I have handled, but not shot that gun. It's very heavy, with adjustable comb. etc. Don't know if that's what your referring to.

Kenny Graft 01-18-2014 09:22 AM

Dave Noreen 01-18-2014 10:19 AM
