Drakes Landing in Feb?

I am getting the urge to return to Drakes Landing, NC for a day of clays!
SC duck season ends in Jan , weather starts getting nice in Feb , my wife is suggesting I take a trip somewhere, so...... Anyone interested??
Merry Christmas
David

Mills Morrison 12-23-2013 09:29 AM

Julia and I are in, assuming no pressing engagements.

Ed Blake 12-23-2013 09:54 AM

Sounds good.

Mark Ouellette 12-23-2013 10:33 AM

Hi David,

Please consider scheduling this on the President's Day weekend, 15-17 February. Maybe some of us snowmen might decide to become temporary snowbirds!

Mark

Mills Morrison 12-23-2013 10:35 AM

I like Mark's idea and second him.

Rich Anderson 12-23-2013 10:38 AM

David I know your just trying to learn the target presentations for our get together in April:rotf:

I love shooting there just wish it was closer. Nice weather in Feb? what a change that would be:bowdown:

Mills Morrison 12-23-2013 10:40 AM

Rich, you had better come too so none of us get ahead of you.:rotf:

Buddy Marson 12-23-2013 10:55 AM

I'd like to do that if my schedule permits. Let me know what date you decide on.

Rich Anderson 12-23-2013 10:55 AM

Mills there is no way I can make it down there in Feb. We have two very old and ailing dogs and as the wife is up at 4:30am for work 4 days a week and it's to cold to leave them outside (at least according to her) someone has to let them out midday and nurse them along. Its a bunch of BS to me but we do what we have to. When I get that decrepit I hope someone will put me out of my misery.

Why? We have the dogs and they need to be taken care of, one is blind, deaf, and insulin dependent diabetic. Another is blind in one eye and arthritic to the point he can hardly get up on the couch without help. I have cancelled a Quail hunt at Pine Hill Plantation with Shooting Sportsman readers and writers wingshoot program because my wife can't take this on by herself. If it were my decision alone I would step up to the plate and give these two the respect they deserve and end the suffering but it's not time yet and we can take care of them according to the wife.

Mills Morrison 12-23-2013 11:37 AM

Sorry to hear about your situation Rich

Rich Anderson 12-23-2013 11:44 AM

Thanks Mills, theres not much I can do about it. I'm thankfull the diabetic one still barks to go out to pee even if it is at 3am.

I'll see you at Drakes in April.

Mills Morrison 12-23-2013 12:33 PM

Back to the intent of this thread, what sayeth everyone about getting together at Drakes in February?

Rich Anderson 12-23-2013 04:02 PM

David its a secret.....be very, very quiet about it...I have a reputation to uphold:rotf::rotf::rotf:

Mike.Smith 12-24-2013 01:55 AM

Well, twist my arm and all. I guess I'll drive the 15 minutes to join you guys :)

Hell, by then I might have the pictures from the first shoot edited and up on the site. :duck:

Mike

Mills Morrison 12-24-2013 09:56 AM

Mike, we have some reloadable shells for you. If you get the photos up, send some to Dean so he can put them in the next Parker Pages

wayne goerres 12-24-2013 09:29 PM

Mills is Drakes Landing in South Carolina or Ga.

Mills Morrison 12-24-2013 09:32 PM

North Carolina, Wayne. A beautiful part of NC too. Right around where the Spring Southern is.

wayne goerres 12-24-2013 10:53 PM

Goerge town was a seven hour drive for me. Darn it .

Buddy Marson 01-02-2014 11:49 AM

David, I spent some time with Mark over the holidays and as you suggested, invited him to join us at Drake's in Feburary. He won't be joining us. He, and I quote " just doesn't have the interest in shooting that he once had." Hope you had a great holiday! Looking forward to seeing you next month.
Buddy

David Dwyer 01-02-2014 11:52 AM

Buddy
Thanks and see you in Feb. I know his shooting has deteriorated in the last few years and that bothered him. I am fortunate that mine was never that good
so I am just happy to hit a few.
David

The Quality Inn in Fuquay Varina has good rates for the moment for those who want to reserve their room

Buddy Marson 01-09-2014 07:16 PM

What's the agenda? Arrive on what date? Is this a one day shoot? What's the plan?
Buddy

Mills Morrison 01-09-2014 07:44 PM

By necessity, we plan to arrive Friday night, shoot all day Saturday, have dinner Saturday night and go home Sunday morning. Others may stay around Sunday and maybe Monday.

David Dwyer 01-10-2014 08:17 AM

I will arrive noonish Friday, shoot that afternoon, all day Sat and head home Sun AM. I have been asked to see if we can get a good rate at the Hampton with their pool so some of our northern friends can bring bring a friend .
David

Mike.Smith 01-10-2014 09:08 AM

I spoke with Dan last weekend when I was there and told him that we might be coming back in February on Presidents' Day weekend. Dan has a large event coming up in March and he's trying to get the new clays course finished before then. If he gets some good weather, he might have it done when you guys come. It's 90% complete right now, so cross your fingers on that one. I might be able to shoot on Friday afternoon, but for sure all day on Saturday and Sunday.

Rich, I also told him that I felt we would have a large number for the Spring Southern, and outlined some of the plans with people coming up a day early to shoot at his place. Dan said we should let him cook for us all one night. As I stood there and smelled the brisket he had been cooking all day, along with the smoked Salmon and Pheasant, it was even easier to take him up on that offer.

Daryl Corona 01-10-2014 09:26 AM

Thanks Mike. Gotta love Dan. Can't wait.

David Dwyer 01-10-2014 09:29 AM

Mike
Hope you can make it Friday. My mouth is watering. The brisket he did for us in October was the best I have ever eaten. Think he might cook for us Sat noon?
David

Buddy Marson 01-10-2014 09:51 AM

David, I plan on being there around noon on Friday also. Save me a spot on the squad Friday afternoon. Are you going directly to Drake's or checking in first? Let me know where you decide to stay (Quality Inn or Hampton Inn) and I'll book my resv accordingly.
Buddy

David Dwyer 01-10-2014 12:02 PM

Buddy
I will go directly to Drakes Landing. See you there.
David

Mills Morrison 01-10-2014 01:09 PM

Just don't shoot all your shells on Friday and save plenty for Saturday.

Rich Anderson 01-10-2014 04:20 PM

Mike thanks for giving Dan the heads up for our group in April. Once I get a tentative head count I'll contact him and see what we can arrange. I'm looking forward to April.

David Dwyer 01-11-2014 11:56 AM

It seems our possible visitors from up north will not make it. Quality Inn seems to be the lodging of choice. It looks like four guns on Friday and the rest, six?, Blakes, Halls $ Morrisons,on Sat. Anyone else considering joining us?
David

Mills Morrison 01-11-2014 06:49 PM

Sounds good to us.

David Dwyer 01-12-2014 08:15 AM

Buddy has secured for us a group rate at the Quality. Please ask for the Parker Gun Club rate. See y'all there and anyone decides to just drop in, please do.
David

Mike.Smith 02-10-2014 10:46 AM

Do we have a final headcount for this weekend? I was going to check with Dan to see about lunch on Saturday again, but we'll need enough people to make it worth him cooking. Am I leaving anyone out, or have plans changed for anyone?

From my conversations and posts so far, these are the attendees I have for Saturday...

Smith
Dwyer
Mullins
Hall
Marson
Morrison x2
Blake x2

Thanks,

Mike
