Is it rare to have a Parker with a full comb?

Why were some Parkers ordered with a full comb?

They were usually competition guns such as trap guns and pigeon guns.... but not always. I've seen a bunch of them and have owned two.

Thx, Dean. Why did competition shooters order them? What is the advantage?

A broader surface for the cheek bone to rest against... comfort, positioning...? Not sure.

The one I'm looking at is obviously thicker than a standard stock but no way as thick as that VH.

dean have shot one of these full comb guns...i have a stevens with a full comb and when i shoot heavy loads in it it really hurts your cheek shooting it..just wondering... charlie

I really don't know if we can compare a Stevens and a Parker in recoil dynamics. The only Parker that ever hurt me (except the 12 ga. Trojan I hunted with when I was twelve) due to recoil is a 20 ga. VH owned by my son-in-law. The gun weighs about 5 1/2 lbs and I won't shoot it anymore unless with RST's softest loads.

But I've been punched pretty good when shooting shotguns by other manufacturers.

I believe full combs were to lessen the felt recoil to one's cheek via a larger less knife like surface area. Trap shooting is a fairly rapid fire event with only short breaks between stations. ATA events are 100 targets and usually shooters shoot 200 to 300 targets plus practice on a given day. At least that is how it is done now.

Here is a picture of two V's, one with a full comb one more standard, both 1 1/2 frames.

I do know I would benefit from some cast off on the full comb gun. One effect is I find it harder to look straight down the rib.

I think that you will often find guns ordered with full combs to also have higher stock dimensions. Another more common target gun feature.

Looks like combs come in full and extra full. My gun is thick but not as thick as some shown here. It looks more like the A1S shown by Dean, ie it has the typical comb nose but a much thicker stock than standard.

Brian, you are right on when it comes to my gun as the DAC and DAH are both 1 1/2".

Trap guns always have a higher comb...are straighter to compensate for a rising target
