Care of Parker Repro Gun Case Leather?

I have a Parker Repro Leather Gun Case. Does the leather facing on this case require any sort of periodic leather treatment? If so, what is the preferred treatment to keep the leather properly conditioned and to prevent it from drying out/cracking/splitting? :corn:

Emmebi has quite a website which may give you some ideas. Emmebi made the Repro cases and is a big casemaker for the European trade. I would use a clear wax rather than oil.

I would not use anything but a damp cloth if it gets dirty. With the canvas cover, the case should never need any kind of treatment. My 2 Repro cases are nearly 30 years old and look brand new. Any type of leather treatment will probably darken the leather.

Joe has a good point. Most of the old abused looking cases we see look that way because they were abused, oiled, or spent too much time outdoors. I have 100 year old trunk cases that look new with no treatment.

Unfortunately I don't have the canvas cover that originally came with the case. Suppose I should break down and part with some loot to buy a cover. Thanks for all the suggestions. I will refrain from oiling the leather.

My Repro came with a cheap, ratty mouse hair cover.
I'd like a canvas one too. Any ideas where they can be found?

Galazan's has covers and Jeff's Outfitters has them also.

Bobby, don't toss the original - they are hard to come by these days.

Just send it to me

My cheap, ratty mouse hair cover actually repels dust, dirt and grime
simply by virtue of it's cheap, ratty mouse hairiness. Nothing wants to get close to it.
No worries Dean.

I bought one from Jeff - works well - good price - check the size - the closest one I could find is a little too deep. Billy

Jeff's sizes run too big for my 20 ga case

Greg Baehman 10-26-2013 08:45 PM

Have you inquired directly to the manufacturer? They still have the leather key fobs that were originally furnished with the case. Who knows, maybe they still have an original outer cover or can come up with something that will work?

allen newell 10-27-2013 01:30 PM

will do. I have spoken with their Sales Director in the past who was gracious enough to send me free of charge a Parker Repro Label (the original one was missing from the case when I bought the gun and case.) It was their last Parker Repro Label!

I'll contact them about the canvas cover and post their reply. It will make protecting this case much better if I had a canvas cover. The one's I've seen and Jeff's Outfitters and Galazan's are too big for the case.

Below is the reply I just received from Emmebi regarding whether or not they still have or make the canvas covers for the Parker Repro gun cases.

"Hello Mr. Newell, thanks for the request.
Unfortunately we have no more stock of canvas covers for the original Parker
cases, and making a single piece now costs Euro 349.-.

We can manufacture it with green or brown canvas, because the original tan
canvas is discontinued. The current delivery time is 5 weeks after receipt of your order.

Kate Buckley, in Portland CT. made one for me that is as nice as any I've seen. Custom sized to fit the wooden case for my 0 frame 16 hammer gun. If I recall, it was about $125

Thanks Edgar,
If you have contact info on her, would you pm me so I can make an inquiry?
