Unique GHE's
Does anyone notice anything unusual about these three GHE'S? I saw the last one at the Vintagers, outstanding gun!!!
http://www.gunbroker.com/Auction/Vie...Item=369814472 http://www.gunsinternational.com/Par...n_id=100381142 No direct link, but the 1/2 frame GHE at Steve Cobb's http://stevecobbguns.com/amersg.htm |
I wasnt aware they used skeloten but plates on G grade guns.
Yes, definitely Chris. Gun #2 is a "Meridian" gun. An extreme rarity from the pre-transitional phase and on par in value to a half frame. And they say us Fox guys don't know "squat" about Parkers!!!!:rotf:
Parker no. 1 is restocked and the originality of the skeleton butt plate is questionable.
Parker no. 2 is restocked and case colored in the cyanide method and SSBP is questionable. Parker no. 3 appears to be an original late Remington Parker and Remington often used higher grade wood and other features on their Parkers and the SSBP is probably original. |
Sorry but is that like a Meriden gun?
Which one Dennis?
I have a GHE 16 with an original skelton butt.
I’ll give the guy selling the GHE in Alaska credit for tenacity as that gun has been listed for over a year. Guess he is in no hurry to sell it:rolleyes:
I have a delightful little 28" Damascus GHE that letters with a skeleton buttplate and English Walnut. It was shipped to Welsh, West Virginia of all places. When I was a pup, one of the members of my gun club shot an original GHE 12 gauge skeet gun with skeleton butt.
Dean,
I was more commenting on the spelling of Meridian rather than Meriden. I probably should not have. Dennis |
Here are a couple more unique GHE's for your viewing pleasure, since this is unique GHE week!

Maybe not as unusual as I thought! Tom, that is definitely a unique pair of GHE's, how did you happen upon the second one?
My 24" 16 Damascus GHE was unusual enough until the seller contacted me a couple years into my ownership and told me he had found the 28" and 30" barrels and forends that had become separated from the gun. There are some neat G Grades out there.
Bill Murphy, lost Parker barrel whisper-er!
Believe it or not, Chris, I stumbled on the second at a local gun show, not 10 miles from home. I thought it was a connector to the one I had at home (not many GHE 24" guns to start with), but wasn't 100% sure. I drove home 100 mph to check and sure enough... so I drove back 150 mph, picked up a friend on the way to make sure my eyes were screwed in right, and brokered the deal. Both guns were bought 10 years apart and both within 40 miles of my house. It'll probably never, ever happen again, but it sure is fun to look!
Three of my "reunited" lost barrels to guns were either started or completed at gun shows including the three barrel set and two two barrel sets. Another reunited barrel to gun was found for me by Gary Carmichael at a gun show. He placed the barrels on the lost and found subforum and I found them there. That is six sets of barrels found at gun shows to complete four guns.
Bill you should be playing the lottery instead of playing with a pile of rusty pipes.
The gun shows where I found barrels to reunite were the Maryland Antique Arms Association Show at Baltimore, the Pennsylvania Gun Collectors Show at Monroeville, and the old Preston Jones Show, also at Baltimore. The last two were found in kegs of barrels filled with rusty surplus barrels. Gary found the barrels for the fourth gun at the Greensboro, NC show. I had bought that gun without barrels from PGCA board member John Davis who lives in Georgia. He took the Titanic Barrels off that gun for a second set for his BH gun and let the forend go with the barrels. The barrels that he had were later replacement barrels for the DH. The barrels that Gary sold to me were the original Damascus barrels for the DH that had been separated from the gun since the Titanics were installed. I will find out when that was done, maybe, when I get a PGCA letter. In the next couple of years, I may have another story to tell, if I'm lucky.

Unique GHE

This is my Unique GHE 12 gauge. It has single trigger, ejectors and two sets of Vent Rib barrels each with it's own Beavertail forend!
Barrels are 26 inch (Mod)+(FULL) and 30 inch (FULL)+(FULL) The stock has field dimensions, the gun was made in 1928 no letter available. I do not think there were many two barrel vent rib sets in any grade. |
Really, really nice Scott. They certainly are unique and the G's are becoming my favorite grade. Enjoy!
Scott I have a GHE 16 on a #1 frame with two sets of vent rib bbls also. The gun letters as a skeet/trap set with BTF for both sets of bbls, straight stock and SST.
Nice Gun! I would like to think mine was ordered for Skeet and Trap but there is no letter available. The serial number puts it around 1928. If you read the Skeet rule book from 1929 the ideal gun for a man to use at Skeet is his ideal field piece.
Got any pictures of your 16? |
Here are a few pics of the two bbl set. I don't have any of the GHE damascuss gun, a 16 0 frame with all the options.

Pushed the wrong button:shock: here are the pics The gun came from Alex Kerr's in Holywood, CA.
Scott, my rusty PHE Trap is a two barrel vent rib set with 26" bird barrels. The bird barrels were built with splinter forend. It is not one of my reunited barrel sets. However, I did buy it at a gun show, Allentown, PA. It was owned by (son of?) ballplayer Eddie Plank. It was his pigeon gun when he managed the Bucks County Shooting Association pigeon club at Chalfont, PA. It is now my crossover all purpose gun.
I would like to see that! Do you think the gun was ordered with both barrels or was it sent back for the field barrels?

Scott, the bird barrels are Vulcan Steel and were apparently built later. They are factory numbered and vent rib. No order book entries that late. #216218. The stock book entry is 30", single trigger, Trap type forend, with patterning information. The gun now has a Miller trigger, since it lived its life in PA.
Rich ,I have never seen a close up of " The Hollywood Gun " Beautiful ! :bowdown:Thanks for posting !
Rich, do you have the original stock?
The original stock had about 4" of drop and it broke while trying to bend it in such a way as it wasn't repairable. At the time I didn't think to keep it:cuss:
Rich ,did the original stock have a " Kerr Sport Shop " Pad ?Which was also stamped Beverly Hills Cal. .
The original stock had a checkered butt. The trunk case has an Alex Kerr, Beverly Hills, Ca label. The original owner was a Major General William Bradford who was stationed at a S.A.C. base in AZ. He was instrumental in the dropping of the Atomic bomb on either Hirioshima or Nagasaki I don't remember which.

I couldn't say about the "drop". The owner befor me was a retired NFL player from NJ. and maybe he had it restocked for him I can't say. The forarms are to the best of my knowledge original to the gun and have a more elaborate checkering pattern than a std G grade.
