Extractors

Forgive my lack of effort in reading the parker story in entirety, but did parker bros. fabricate there extractors with a small stepped insert containing the rim recess, and if so what year did that design change to one piece? If there is another thread covering this may I be directed to it please.

Let me rephrase this. I was looking at an extractor that seemed to have an insert in it. Is this an adapted extractor of the same frame size or had parker ever built them in that fashion.

John, it is difficult to visualize exactly what you mean... can you post a picture?

The only two-piece "extractor" that I know of is a set of ejectors.

Here is the best I can do Dean. It looks like an extractor from a common frame is used on a smaller gauge like 16 to 20.. do you concur.

Dean Romig 09-09-2013 06:52 PM

Honestly, I don't see anything unusual about that extractor.

Is it for the same rim size that the circumference of the chamber rim recess would require

Dean Romig 09-09-2013 06:56 PM

I think now I see what you're referencing. It looks like the recessed rim was welded into the rim recess of an extractor originally made for a larger bore.

Looked like a hell of a fit but now that I think of it I am thinking it was for lack of the proper extractor.

John, Is this from your 28 gauge?

John Taddeo 09-09-2013 09:47 PM

Yes it is Dave,

Dean Romig 09-09-2013 09:53 PM

Is it an 0-frame?

What year was it made in?

John Taddeo 09-09-2013 09:59 PM

Yes , 0 frame ,1903. I pulled the extractor out to see if the gauge was stamped on the back but no dice.. nice fit up job though...

Dave Suponski 09-09-2013 10:20 PM

John, Did we figure out how early of a gun this is. My bet is that its real early or those barrels were originally from a twenty or sixteen gauge. That explains alot if you know what I mean.

John Taddeo 09-09-2013 10:45 PM

I know exactly what you mean..

Dean Romig 09-10-2013 12:28 AM

There were a fair number of earlier 28's but well spaced between. Could PB have been this low on the supply of 28 ga. extractors that they had to fabricate one? Doesn't seem probable... hmmm...
