Patina

Does anyone have a good product for addng patina to metal. I use vinegar but it takes a while to work and I would like to find something that is faster. Thanks, Tom

edgarspencer 06-25-2013 10:10 AM

Tom, I'll PM you.

charlie cleveland 06-25-2013 04:01 PM

an apple or orange will work fast on a knife blade... charlie

I have used carpet rust remover with good results. I would say it etches the surface.

Dean Romig 06-25-2013 04:59 PM

Tom, I used a 50/50 mix of apple cider vinegar and (please excuse for the more gentile reader) urine on the trigger guard bow I sent you the picture of last week.

They used something like that a 100 years ago for browning.

Find a boy aged 12-15 years of age and have him handle the gun. His sweaty hands will turn anything brown resulting in a nice patina. I know this for a fact.

I have heard that too. The first leak of the morning on a set of barrels and then let them rust in a hickory shed.

Awwwwww Dean, you just brightened an otherwise gloomy day. That reply alone was worth the $40 cover charge!! And I thought it was only TEAM FOX that would ever remotely think of PEEING on a PARKER!!!!:bigbye:

Chugged a quart of iced tea, grabbed my VH and am heading out to the Hickory Shed to add a bit more Parker Patina. Hump-Day just turned a
"wee bit" more bearable!!!!! :rotf:

Tom Carter 06-26-2013 05:13 PM

What next?????

You know....When you ask for help in this crowd you never know what you'll get.......... Cheers everybody and thanks for all the advise...even Dean. Tom

It will take me mounths to add patina to all my guns. I may have to hire people.

Tom Carter 06-26-2013 06:39 PM

Dean, I will wager you won't hear the end of this. Cheers, Tom

Steve Cambria 06-26-2013 07:10 PM

I'm with you Wayne!! That "recipe" hit me at a weak moment and I laughed so damn hard I think I added another 18 years of "peetina" to the front of my shorts!!!:rotf:

An overnight dip in the 'secret formula' produced a pleasant "French gray" tone to a brightly polished trigger guard bow.

Here is the trigger guard in question.

I am just glad my replacement screw was on its way before Tom started getting advice from Dean.

Dean Romig 06-27-2013 02:57 PM

Geoffroy Gournet is the engraver of his trademark Bulino woodcock and full moon.

Now I'll need to buy his etching of this same motif.

Dean;
After seeing the outcome of your trigger guard I think you missed your opportunity in life. Let's just say you pi**ed away a good income source.
