Good Dog Runs Amuck

Cookie is really a good GSP but left to her own devices she will wreak havoc in the pheasant pen.
Her owner, a neighbor of mine, often leaves her out of her kennel when he goes out on business or to market and that is something that should never be done with an expensive bird dog. Despite her transgressions when Lenny isn't around to keep her out of trouble, she is still hell on pheasants, chukars and ruffed grouse and she is steady to flush and shot. Heck, who can blame her for her excitement when there are so many birds to occupy her idle time. . |
Cirque du Soleil for bird dogs

Was Michael Jackson a Parker Guy? I just don't see it!!

Thats a nice looking dog. I had two GSP that got into the neighbors chicken coop when they were puppies. It was an expensive lesson and we ate quite a bit of chicken.

The say it takes birds to make a bird dog:rotf:
John those are two fine looking GSP...my favorite breed:bowdown::bowdown: |
I love Shorthairs Rich , but the start of this thread has to say it all...Steady to wing ,shot and fall standing on top of a six foot high bird pen......
|
I had one that would climb the kennel fence, ballance all four feet on the top of the 4X4 post and jump to freedom:shock:

I think it is a good thing my Draht doesn't have the opportunity to visit that pen. His metal crate won't even keep him in anymore, it looks like the front end of it got hit by a truck.

Chaz, you bring up a good point about Drats and Wirehairs. My Wirehair, Eva, would not go to the top of the cage. She would bite through the wire at ground level. When she was just a pup, being worked on a lead, her first real quail covey started to move on her. I was a trim 200 pounds at the time and she dragged me through a blackberry thicket and I came out the other side, on my belly, bleeding profusely. She did not shed one drop of blood. One of our members witnessed that event and was quite amused.

I use the phrase "single minded of purpose" when talking about Kaiser. That dog would plod through Hell if there were a gamebird on the other side.
He went to a professional trainer for a few months his second summer. When I called to check on him the trainer mentioned in passing that "he is really fast." When I picked Kaiser up I found out why, he was the first dog this guy ever had catch a pigeon coming out of a spring trap. Getting him to point was a treat! CHAZ |
