What a dufus
 

Well I was taking the second Parker I bought which I believe was in 1986 out of its L.O.M. Case in the garage and the barrels slipped out of my hands and fell straight down on the dolls head and didn't break it but must have tweaked it so it will almost close but don't want to force it so I guess I need to send it out for repair. What a dufus . Thanks for letting me vent. Thomas

Sorry for the title but every time I try to correct the word dufus my laptop automatically changes the spelling to duffs and I don't have the smarts to correct it. Thomas

Tom, I think we have all been there. Things happen, and sometimes we just breathe a sigh of relief, but sometimes we get burned. I sat a Win 23 Pigeon Grade XTR 20 ga on the roof of my car once and then drove away only to see it in my rear view mirror. Brings back bad memories. We feel your pain.

I refuse to post my stupid moves on a public board because a few people here may still harbor the impression that I know what i am doing.

A friend and I were Grouse hunting in the Upper Pennisula and after the hunt we were haveing a drink, giving the dogs some water and generally reviewing the day. We loaded dog, and gear in the truck and drove the hour or so back home. When we were unpacking the truck Dave asked "did you put my gun in the truck?". "No I didn't touch your gun" was the reply. He had left his Holland and Holland leaning against a tree :eek: He drove back and managed not only to find the two track we were on but there was his gun leaning against the tree. Some people are just lucky.

So far I haven't had such poor luck... but the older I get the more diminished the 'law of averages' becomes. My day will come I'm sure... I just hope there are no witnesses.

Kathy knows this only too well. The other evening I left the gas grill burning for 5 minutes to burn off the sauce residue after barbequeing some chicken thighs. Last night I went to grill some nice steaks for us and I had to walk back in the house and sheepishly tell her we were out of gas.... Boy, did I get it!! :shock:

Thomas, Whether you call it dufuss or dumb ass it is the same and I am guilty also. I was taking a picture of ser # 258 in it's original case, well I had it on the porch railing ready to take the picture I was focusing when my wife called me I turned to look at her and when I looked back to take the photo the gun and case were gone! It had fallen off the railing to the ground 15 feet below the gun was in the case and the case was open for the photograph fortunately the ground below was soft , nothing broke but the case lis was a little bent up. Now I have a table that I take the pictures on, no more railings. I was fortunate, this D## A## will not do that again. I guess we get so use to doing something that at times we do not think about it! Gary

That was back in the late '80's and I sent it to a Winchester reccomended 'smith in Coudersport, Pa. One year while hunting in the UP, I met a bigshot in the NRA who was going to meet Wayne Lapierre and go hunting out west. He liked the gun and showed up at the cabin that night with a wad of hundreds . I had just started with the old sxs and had bought my first 16 SW and 16 VH and never looked back.

If it makes you feel any better, it happens to the best of us! Does the name Nash Buckingham ring a bell?!!

Rich, I've found a couple of lost dogs in the UP, but never an H & H. Maybe I'll be lucky and find a GH 16 leaning against a tree somewhere out Turner Rd.

I had my gun in one of those old canvas take down cases with separate compartments for the barrels, action and forend. I lifted it out of the back of the truck, swung around, and watched the barrels go skidding across the asphalt street; the flap was buckled but apparently there was enough room for them to slip by. They came away with a few nicks and scratches but no dents. It was my old Stevens 5100 but I couldn't have felt worse if I'd wrecked a new car.

The gun that fell out is my 20 Ga. 32 Inch VHE no. 1 frame with English stock and probably needs to head over to Kieth Kearcher for a once over. The barrels are getting a little thin but is a great shooter. Thomas

Don't feel bad fellas...Dean gave up dropping guns. Now he sets booby traps for other peoples guns...Huh Dean?.....:rolleyes:

I will try to remember this story the best I can. It was sometime in the late sixty's and my brother in law was checking one of his favorite hunting spots and when he pulled in he noticed what he thought was a gun laying in the weeds. It wasn't just any gun but a highly engraved German drilling and he said Tom I have never seen a finer gun in my life. He somehow found the owner and boy was this guy happy to see his gun he had bought back from the war. That when I found out what great guy my brother in law was. Thomas

ever try to shoot three inches of mud out of the barrel of a 410? I did. it did not work quite the way I had hoped...

dean: that event accured in the early fifties in a swamp in Georgia. not sure we had camaras of any kind at that time in jawja...back then we ust our imaginations to picture things...think of a small banana, peeled half way...anyway, my dad wacked about four inches off the barrel and viola, ah had my first an only quail gon.
