Dean, Asked me to post this up for him as he is in the Northeast Kingdom of VT. This tom was taken by Dean this morning. 18 1/2 pounds 9" beard and 1" spurs. The Parker of choice was his new to him Grade 3 10 bore.

nice job Dean!!!! we start friday :p scott
nice bird dean...looks like you mayed a good choice getting a 10 ga to down this big old bird.... charlie
Most people opt for a camo Mossberg. Dean uses a chrome plated hammer gun.
Them spanish guns sure are shiney
I can see that shiney gun being used in drive by Grouse shootings this fall:rotf:
Way to go Dean. You just have to love those 10ga. hammer guns, nothin better.
Very nice looking turkey and gun. Well done!!!
Going out the driveway last night. Biggest I've seen so far.

Arrived back at my son in law's early this morning and headed out back with my bow and turkey call. Walked over a knoll in the woods and ran smack into a nice tom and hen. Drew down on the tom as he slowly and much to my surprise walked away. Let one arrow fly at less than 20 yards....you know the rest of the story. He's still courting that hen but is probably looking over his shoulder. Only if I had one of my Parkers with me instead of the bow..
Congrats Dean ! Nice looking Tom ,and Hopefully you will show us some better pictures of that new 10 Gauge when you get home ! Allen ; I hope you were shooting a " Parker " ! Bow that is ...:rotf:
Dean's bird is a beauty. Congrat's Dean. No Russ, it wasn't a Parker Bow, but I wish it had been a Parker! Bow or gun.

David, He was walking away and he did jump the arrow. After I embarrassed my self at my son in laws this morning, I returned home to change footwear in order to walk the Canal. On my way down to the Canal (it's only 1 1/2 miles from the house) I drive by a house and what do I see sitting (yes sitting) on their front lawn...2 massive Toms. ARGH!
Walk on the Canal was uneventful but (for you striped bass fishermen out there) the stripers are showing up now in the Canal. |
them turkey are like deer they know where its safe to take a break...dog gone on a mans lawn were will them turkeys go to next...alan thats a sight i ve never seen.... charlie

I certainly don't need a phone that's smarter than me, I just need one to make a phone call.... not tweet, twitter or twadle. This world of instant communication is somewhat stressful at times and I would like to go back to the old days of the rotary phone and a party line. If you know what a party line is your showing your age. I like old guns, old cars, old furniture and mature women. My daughter calls me an old fart. I'm proud of that.
Very well put "Old Fart"....

Old Phones
Daryl, Did you ever turn the crank to get the operator and tell her the number you wanted? Cheers, Tom
Wow Tom, I had no idea you were THAT old! You don't look your age.:bigbye:
Double gun farts, that's us!
Here ,Here

I just sold an old Lyman receiver sight to a lady on Long Island, NY and she says she sees turkeys and deer on her lawn all the time. Isn't that the way.

Well I doctored it up as good as I could with the self-sticking camo tape... problem was that I couldn't see the front bead over the tape so I got a little inventive. I took apart a trolling spinner rig and used the hot pink flexible plastic tubing. It slipped right off the bead so I held a match to the end of it for a second to melt the plastic forming bead that now snaps over the bead and is difficult to take off. Trimmed it to length and it worked perfectly. The last picture was about 4 minutes after the shot. . |

Congrats on the nice gobbler and what a beautiful gun. These new custom sights could keep you busy in retirement. Tom will make the screws and you can supply the Hi-Vis sight.:)

That gun is beautiful.
With regard to the old phones, my grandmother was the town clerk of Ischua, NY when I was about 5 years old. As I recall she had the first phone in town and it was an old hand crank phone. It was made of oak and was beautiful. I wish I had it now. We did have a party line and our ring was 2 longs and a short as I recall. Now we get bird chirps for rings. Life was better in the 50's in many ways. Dennis |
