A Southern side event
All of us know that the Southern is a great venue but it's not a shooting venue per say. Therefor several of us are gathering at the lobby of the Hampton Inn Friday/ Sat at 9am to shoot at Drakes Landing. This is a great sporting clays course and is very similiar to Hausmanns as far as the terrain goes. There are several shooting stations for each target presentation with varying degrees of difficulty.
Anyone who would like to go and shoot 50 or 100 targets in the am is welcome to join us. |
Count me in!
Who is going to look at guns while you guys are gone?
You can keep an eye on them for us....or come out and shoot.:rotf:

Rich
See you Fri @ 9AM David |
We will be arriving a little later. Do we just come to Drake's Landing? Thanks
Mills you certainly can meet us a Drakes Landing.

See you all there.

I was wondering when this post would surface. Count me in as well. I'll second what Rich said about Drake Landing. It's my "home course" being only 15 minutes from my house, and is a great place to shoot.
It's funny, I was out there this past weekend shooting my Hammer Gun and struck up a conversation with a few of the employees hanging out at the first station. The one gentleman asked about my Parker and said he remembered a group of guys coming out around this time last year that were all shooting older doubles. When he commented on all of the *#@% talking that was going on, I knew it had to be you guys. :rotf: I told him to expect us at the end of April. |

This is not intended to detract from the fine shooting venue at Drake's Landing but only as a reminder to those who plan to shoot to qualify for the PGCA vs. LCSCA Challenge Cup that the qualifying schedule will be very tight and you should be ready to shoot when it is your time to do so.
Also a reminder that Bill Kempfler has given so much to the PGCA in the way of Deep River's hospitality such as a very expensive tent at no charge at all along with so much more. We should remember to support him and his generosity by shooting at Deep River too. Through our taking advantage of the various shooting venues at Deep River we help him to recover his costs of supplying us with these things at no cost to the PGCA. People can shoot where they want to but we hope that you all burn a lot of powder at Deep River too. Thanks guys. |
I will certainly be burning powder at both places. Can't wait to see your new hammergun Mike. Bill K. does a fine job and we appreciate all he does for this event but Drakes allows me to burn way more powder. See you at 0900 Rich.

The clays at Deep River have just as much to fear from me that weekend as well.
Yes. !@#$%^& talking = COB!
Dean, we were not trying to take away from Deep River but one day on a course that is not crowded and has many stations to shoot is a nice retreat from waiting in lines at the Southern. Don't worry we will burn powder at Bill's place too it just nice to have a different venue that is more laid back.
David so whats your point? Are you saying you have a lack of concentration?:rotf::rotf::rotf:
We already have our sign up sheets for Deep River ready.
Linda rented a golf cart for the weekend. How long a drive is it to the Drake facility from Deep River? I understand that carts are rented by the day with unlimited mileage, but I don't want to overextend my welcome. Linda's son in law drove a John Deere lawn tractor from his house to our house, about four miles. I figure that's about the limit for a lawn tractor, but a golf cart is probably good for about ten one way.
Bill I think the distance would tax the golf cart, you should take the car.
OK, I won't drive Bill Kempfler's golf cart fifteen miles to the "other" course. I'll hang out at Deep River.

Only three days befor we pack guns and more ammo than we will need for the Southern and to add a reminder to meet in the lobby of the Hampton Inn (I think most of the PGCA is staying there) at 9am Friday and maybe Sat as well to shoot a round of clays at nearby Drakes Landing. It's a great course, friendly people, very affordable and uncrowded. It will be a good tune up befor you take on the 5 stand for the Challenge.
This Friday excursion is a lot of fun with some nice people on a fun challenging coarse . If you can tolerate being messes with a bit you will really enjoy it. Y'all Come!
David |
It would be great to see some new members, we are there to shoot, not keep score... It's fun, so if you can join us in the morning or afternoon that is fine or if you can spend the day you will have fun....
I spoke to the folks at Drakes Landing just make sure there were no conflicts and they are expecting us. It will be a great day of burning powder and a tune up for the challenge course at Deep River.
Rich, I've changed my mind and won't be going to Drakes on Friday. I'll stick around Deep River and help out. See you there.
