Fox-Lefever Challenge Rules for Hausmann's

Ladies and Gents, for those interested in shooting a Fox or Lefever gun, here are the rules for the Fox-Lefever Challenge at Hausmann's Northern SxS Classic.

2016 Fox vs. Lefever Challenge Rules

1) Competition is open to members in good standing of the AHFCA or LACA before they shoot their qualification round. Updated rosters will be on hand to verify current membership status. Dual members of AHFCA and LACA must choose ONE Association to represent at time of registration. Anyone attempting to shoot for both Associations will be disqualified.

2) Shooters must use a shotgun promoted by the organization they choose to represent. Those shooting A.H. Fox guns and representing the AHFCA are limited to Fox guns manufactured in Philadelphia, PA, Utica, NY and New Britain, CT (CSMC Fox models). Those shooting Lefever guns: Legitimate Lefevers are those guns made by Dan Lefever or one of his companies (Lefever Arms Co. after he left.). This includes Ithaca made Lefever guns with side plates but excludes Ithaca made Lefever Nitro Specials and their derivatives.

3) All those who wish to compete in the 2016 Fox/Lefever Challenge must first shoot the 10-12-16 gauge course at Haussmann’s. This course will serve as the “Qualification Round.”

All shooters must first pay and acquire their score cards from the registration office located in the Hausmann’s garage. You’re simply signing up to shoot the 12 ga course, period. No need to mention the FLC. Before you shoot, bring your scorecard to the Fox tables (located out by the Bo-Whoop stand). Here is where a Fox or Lefever official will register you for the FLC. Immediately after shooting, return your score card to the Fox tables for recording. After tabulating, it will be returned to the registration desk at Hausmann’s.

Any gun may be used (10 GA thru .410). The gunner will specify the maker and gauge when signing up at the AHFCA tables. You may shoot more than one qualification round (utilizing the same maker’s gun) with a separate signup and fee due each time.

4) Qualification round(s) may be shot all day on Thursday June 2nd and up until 2p.m on Saturday, June 4th. Completed scorecards must be back into the AHFCA tables no later than 2 p.m. on Saturday, NO EXCEPTIONS. A blackboard in place there will rank the lead qualifiers and will be updated as scores are tallied throughout the day.

5) The Top-5, high-scoring Fox and Lefever shooters will be selected for the respective Challenge Teams.

6) The Fox–Lefever Challenge round will be conducted on Hidden Hollow’s 5-Stand field immediately before the Bo-Whoop/WCL Shoot-Offs on Saturday, June 4th @ 3:00. A flip of the coin will decide the first team to shoot.

7) A total of 125 targets will be thrown for each team of 5 gunners. High cumulative score will decide the 2016 winning team. The cumulative score for each team will be calculated as follows: The sum of scores recorded by the Hidden Hollow scorer + the official Lefever scorer + the official Fox scorer. That sum will be divided by three (3) and rounded to the second decimal place. (Each scorer will use a hand operated mechanical counter.)

8 ) In the event of a trap malfunction during a team’s attempt at the Challenge targets, the Hidden Hollow official will void that team’s score and a new round of 125 targets will be shot.

9) The wearing of Eye and Ear protection is required of all competitors.

10) All Hidden Hollow/NSCA rules will apply for ammunition and maximum allowed shot size.

11) All shooters who qualify for the Challenge Team will receive an official Fox/Lefever
Hat to commemorate this epic contest.

11. All shooters must have fun, be safe and conduct themselves in a sportsmanlike manner becoming of these two, fine organizations!

Rich Anderson 05-07-2016 01:35 PM

Damn that's a lot of rules:rotf:

Mike Koneski 05-07-2016 05:52 PM

Less rules than Parker-Smith!!

Daryl Corona 05-08-2016 07:20 AM

The most important rule is #11. That's why I'm coming.:bigbye:

Eric Eis 05-08-2016 08:10 AM

Is there going to be a Parker/Fox challenge at the shoot too or just Fox/Lefever challenge?

Daryl Corona 05-08-2016 08:33 AM

Parker/Fox in Sept. at Rock Mountain. Be there or be square.:)

Harold Lee Pickens 05-09-2016 12:58 PM

Why cant you sign up at Hausmann's? I was going to join the Lefever group at Hausman's and shoot my G grade 16--at other venues, such as the recent Southern, one could sign up for Parker or Smith at their tables and then compete. Might get more participation that way.

Rich Anderson 05-09-2016 02:59 PM

I couldn't shoot the Fox/Parker challenge last year as I had just joined the Fox club. The rule of having to be a member of the organization for a certain period of time prevents the stacking of the deck so to speak.

Harold Lee Pickens 05-09-2016 08:20 PM

Don't think that is really a problem, hasn't been at the Southern. This might also allow these organizations to pick up much needed new members and support. Now, I could shoot for AHFCA as I have been a member for many years, but was hoping to shoot my Lefever( actually have 3). Now we both know that my shooting ability is not going to be an asset to either organization, but I would have liked to join in on the competition, and there are a lot fewer Lefever owners and shooters out there than Fox.

Rich Anderson 05-10-2016 09:39 AM

In the early days of the Parker/Smith challenge shooters were signed up that day and given a gun and off to the course. Join the leFever group now and perhaps you will be able to shoot for them.

Why not join LACA now and be done with it?? As COB said, that rule was put in place to prevent loading teams with guys who don't shoot a certain manufacturer's gun but will sign up as a "hired gun". I'd be OK with anyone shooting as long as are a member BEFORE June 2. But that's just me.

Mike Koneski 05-10-2016 01:38 PM

See the change to Rule #1. You're welcome. :)

Mills Morrison 05-10-2016 02:41 PM

Arguing the merits of controversial rules was the hardest part of running the Southern.

Mike Koneski 05-10-2016 02:47 PM

Mills, everyone thinks it's easy. Usually if one goes through a list of rules, at some point one can ascribe a name to a reason a rule was put into place.

Harold Lee Pickens 05-10-2016 09:45 PM

Hey Mike, thanks much for the rule change. I appreciate it, and probably so do others. Didn't mean to cause you more work, thanks for all the work you do for the AHFCA and promotion of our vintage SXS's. Now, if only we could have an Ithaca challenge, I probably shoot my 4E 16 better than any gun I own. See you at Ernie's

Mike Koneski 05-10-2016 10:27 PM

You're welcome Harold. We just want to put on a good event, let guys have fun and keep everything fair. See ya at Ernie's.

See you at THE HOLLOW!!-----Ad Roll

Harold Lee Pickens 05-24-2016 10:12 PM

Nice trophy Steve. Is this the first year for the Fox/Lefever Challlenge?

Steve Cambria 05-25-2016 06:22 AM

Yes it is, Harold.

George M. Purtill 05-25-2016 08:56 AM

I think it is very nice that you Fox boys have started this challenge. I look forward to having a nice cigar and watching my boy Daryl in the finals. I'm gonna remember to bring a chair this year- with a drink holder!!

John Truitt 05-25-2016 11:25 AM

Can anyone give me specific directions to HHSC from the south? Looks like coming up 81 North from Harrisburg, PA.

Dean Romig 05-25-2016 12:01 PM

Take rte. 6 North from Clark's Summit. Get on to 267 North in Meshoppen. Then on to 4015 North to Flynn Rd.

Harold Lee Pickens 05-25-2016 12:35 PM

John, HHSC can often be a little difficult to find. i swear my GPS takes me a different way each year, its that last 2-3 miles taht seems to be confusing, but I come in from the west.
About the challege cup, I belong to PGCA, AHFCA, and LACA. dearly love my Foxes and will have a few there to shoot( and lend if you want to shoot one), but sure hope LACA shooters give them a run for their money. I will try to qualify with my Lefever G 16 damascus, my other 2 Lefevers are Dursten Special 20's.
George, Daryl can sure hold his own and am sure he will be rright in the thick of it.

Rick Losey 05-25-2016 12:39 PM

it may wander north at that point- but route 6 will say west from my experience

not nit picking

Mike Koneski 05-25-2016 02:20 PM

OK, guys and gals, next week the Endless Mountains will shake with joy over the Fox-Lefever Challenge!! Get ready to get it on!!!!

Rich Anderson 05-25-2016 04:12 PM

We will be warming up at The Rock Thursday am. I'm getting acquainted with "The Growler":rotf:

I assume the new moniker for a certain, CE, SG 32"er?? I hope that you will do that gun justice. One he** of a fine, Fox!!

Mike.Smith 05-26-2016 12:43 PM

If you're going to shoot a Fox in a competition bearing the nickname of a famous gun, why not have one for yourself? "Bo Whoop" and "The Growler". I'm sure "PB" will make an appearance in Bucks Corner as well. I need to start naming more of my guns.

John, hope you'll make the drive north and join us at HH. Be careful though, if you come once it will no doubt get added to your schedule every year.

Mike

John, I can give you one set of directions, once you get close stop at gas station or whatever and ask for directions, once you get close to Housseman's gps is worth squat ! Two years ago we stopped at a gas station and the guys we asked had a good laugh when we told them we were following the gps "lady".

Rick Losey 05-26-2016 02:43 PM

i don't get it - my GPS has gotten me there for the several years i have been going

it did change the route the year i upgraded the map - and a couple roads are small dirt roads - but those are still major highways compared to some of the places I hunt.

Dean Romig 05-26-2016 04:04 PM

REMINDER that the Fox Collector's Bo-Whoop Long Range event may be shot with any side by side for the High Gun places and cash purses. And the highest score with an A H Fox designed shotgun will be recognized as the B-W Trophy winner. Mike of the Mountain is the Fox Association Shooting Coordinator and he has complete rules posted on another thread here. Mike sets the targets and I have to say it's good for the cash purse shooters that he can't shoot himself; he's pretty durn good at long range with his Bo-Whoop clone made with a Crescent frame, sleeved to 34", 3-incher, overbored and with cones and chokes massaged by Burt Becker's great grandson. :rotf:

Gents, don't forget to bring your vintage Single Barrel Trap gun for the Fox Collector's W.C. Letterman SBT event. Cash purses also. Again, the rules are posted here on another thread.

DIRECTIONS for those staying at one of the hotels in Tunkhannock or Montrose (PA) or for those coming for the day from the west or south: drive to LAWTON using your Nav, GPS or a plain old time map. Flynn’s Stone Castle is at the intersection in Lawton and is a good local place to buy gas or goodies. Pick up Route 267 N directly across from Flynn’s.

Drive 1.9 miles from Lawton on Route 267 N, watch for left turn onto Irish Hill Road SR4015

Proceed 0.7 miles on Irish Hill Road and bear right at the “Y”

Continue 3.2 miles, watch for beaver pond on the left, turn right onto Flynn Road (dirt road - Hidden Hollow sign on that corner).

1.3 miles to the end of Flynn Road, park in the field to the right

Rich Anderson 05-27-2016 03:05 PM

I'm confident "The Growler" will hold it's own and there will be a BHE live bird gun you know for back up and a surprise just because. I have Tool Man in mind for that one:whistle:

Mike Koneski 05-27-2016 05:20 PM

John, Ernie has directions on his website. www.hhhsc.net

Mike Koneski 05-27-2016 05:23 PM

BTW, gents, there is a 12G 34" BBLS SN-1432xx LIVE PIGEON GUN- NO FACTORY SAFETY, BUILD CONFORMS TO RESEARCH LETTER
PGCA RESEARCH LETTER INCLUDED for sale at RMSC.

Daryl Corona 05-27-2016 05:26 PM

Please don't tell me it has a straight grip. I am very, very weak.

Mike Koneski 05-27-2016 05:55 PM

Yes it does. If I was in buy mode it would be in my safe!! This gun is YOU!!!!

Daryl Corona 05-27-2016 06:21 PM

Tell me more. (In a PM if you wish).
